Minneapolis Police Release Name of Park Officer Injured During an Arrest

August 14, 2025 (MINNEAPOLIS) – Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara announced today that the Minneapolis Police Department has identified the Minneapolis Park Police Officer who was injured during an arrest on Tuesday, August 12th, 2025.

  • Officer Daniel McShane has 37 years of law enforcement experience and has served with the Minneapolis Park Police since March of 2020.

According to the preliminary investigation by the Minneapolis Police Department, Officer McShane responded to the report of a sexual assault at Mueller Park in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota at approximately 1:15 p.m. on August 12th, 2025.

After gathering information which included a description of the suspect, Officer McShane located Tazrick Tobias Nall, age 28, who matched the suspect description and was in an alley on the 2400 block between Bryant Ave S and Colfax Ave S.

Officer McShane approached Nall and attempted to detain him, but Nall refused to comply and actively and physically resisted Officer McShane.  Officer McShane’s attempts to control Nall who continued to physically resist resulted in both going to the ground.   Officer McShane deployed his taser in an attempt to secure Nall, but Nall was not deterred.  Nall continued to resist and purposefully tried to pull the gun from Officer McShane’s holster.  Nall was able to discharge McShane’s gun.  Two Minneapolis Police officers,  a Park Police officer, and Park Police sergeant arrived and helped to control and secure Nall who continued to resist.

Officer McShane was transported to the hospital for injuries sustained during the struggle and was released later that day.

Tazrick Nall was evaluated at the hospital and then booked into the Hennepin County Jail.

Tazrick Nall has been formally charged in Hennepin County with Assault-2nd Degree-Dangerous Weapon and Disarming a Peace Officer - Take Defensive Device from Peace Officer/Area Controlled by Officer

The investigation into the initial report of a sexual assault involving children is still ongoing.

Officer McShane remains on standard paid administrative leave.

Due to the discharge of Officer McShane’s gun, the Minneapolis Park Police requested the Minneapolis Police Department to conduct an independent investigation into this incident.

The General Offence (GO) # for this incident is 25-227725
