July 4, 2025 (MINNEAPOLIS) – Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara announced that officers are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early this morning in North Minneapolis.
At approximately 2:35 a.m., Fourth Precinct officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation and multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire near the 2100 block of Dupont Avenue North. Upon arrival, officers located a man in his 20s suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was transported to North Memorial Health, where he later died.
Preliminary information indicates two men were riding electric scooters when they heard gunfire. The injured man collapsed, and his companion immediately called 911.
The Minneapolis Police Department is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
“This tragic loss of life is something we, as a community, simply cannot accept,” said Chief O’Hara. “Our investigators are working urgently to determine whether this was a targeted or random act, and we need the public’s help. If you have any information, no matter how minor it may seem, please come forward.”
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the victim’s name along with the official cause and manner of death.
