May 17, 2025 (MINNEAPOLIS) – Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara announced that a man in his late 40’s has died at the hospital a day after he was shot.
On May 15, at approximately 8:20 p.m., an ambulance crew near Abbott Northwestern Hospital was approached by a vehicle occupied by a man with at least one life-threatening gunshot wound. They transported the injured man to Hennepin Healthcare Hospital.
A shooting scene was located on the 2700 block of Columbus Ave.
Preliminary information indicates that an altercation inside a vehicle escalated to gunfire injuring the man in his 40s. The reported gunman fled the scene and the injured man’s wife drove him to the hospital where they located the ambulance.
Officers secured the scene and canvassed the area. MPD Forensic Scientists processed the scene and collected evidence.
The injured man died the following day on May 16. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner identified the man as Michael Ray Adkins and declared the manner of death as homicide.
“It’s incredibly frustrating to see yet another life lost to senseless violence,” said Chief O’Hara. “We don’t have all the answers yet as to what happened, but I can promise you that our investigators will work tirelessly to bring justice to this victim and his family.”
No arrests have been made at this time.
