Hi Neighbors!

I am just writing with a quick weather update, our county, Hennepin, is under a tornado watch for the evening.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Hennepin County until 8 p.m. Thursday, May 15. Make sure to have several ways to get alerts and stay weather aware.

Storm preparedness tips for residents:

  • Ensure you have multiple ways to receive alerts.
  • If warnings are issued, be ready to take immediate shelter in a basement or interior room on the lowest level.
  • Secure outdoor furniture and décor in preparation for strong winds.
  • Clear leaves and debris from in front of catch basins to ensure water can get to the drain and prevent street flooding.
  • Prepare for potential power outages by charging devices and having a flashlight on hand.

See more tips at ready.gov/severe-weather or on the City's website. Sign up for Minneapolis emergency alerts by texting MPLSAlerts to 77295 or going to minneapolismn.gov/alerts

Stay dry and please reach out if you have any concerns.

In Solidarity,

Aisha Chughtai
