Dear Neighbors,
As many of you have heard and reached out on, last Tuesday, February 11th, a multiple-incident crime spree, with burglaries and shootings involved, occurred. The Minneapolis Police Department initiated the Crime Pattern Response Protocol to locate at least three suspects believed to be involved in 6 separate crimes in the early morning, last Tuesday. At the time of the incidents, every available officer with support from other agencies was deployed to address the situation.
This has rocked our community in the area, and my heart is with the victims, families, and impacted neighbors in the area. I have been in direct communication with some of the neighbors impacted and attended their block captain meeting last night with leaders of the 3rd precinct and our Crime Prevention Specialist team.
It was announced yesterday that the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) had arrested two adults and two juveniles in connection with the crime spree that left two people injured by gunfire. Through diligent investigative efforts, MPD identified the suspects and coordinated their simultaneous arrests. On February 17th, at approximately 11:30 AM, investigators conducted a surveillance operation in the 2400 block of Bloomington Avenue. The operation resulted in the apprehension of four suspects and the execution of search warrants, which led to the recovery of additional potential evidence.
I am grateful for the work of local law enforcement, their constant communication with me, and their work in swiftly identifying and arresting the individuals responsible. Their investigative efforts, in coordination with prosecuting authorities, are essential to ensuring accountability and justice for those harmed.
As your Council Member, I remain committed to advocating for a comprehensive approach to public safety that prioritizes immediate accountability for violent crime and long-term solutions that address its root causes. There is also an express need to address youth group violence, as a City, we need to work with our partners at the County and in law enforcement to double down on investments in violence diversion to prevent them from offending or reoffending. My priority as your Council Member is to be here to listen, engage, and represent your voice to support the well-being of our community. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you would like to connect further. If you were impacted by these incidents and would like to talk over the phone, please reach out to Ward12@minneapolismn.gov, and my team will schedule some time for us.
Now is a good time to get your block organized. A safe and resilient community, is a well connected community. If you are interested in getting your block organized or doing a neighborhood alley walk though, you can reach out to your neighborhood crime prevention specialist:
