October 27, 2024 (MINNEAPOLIS) Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said that a triple shooting killed two men and critically injured a woman. This is the second triple shooting at two separate homeless encampments in two days.
At approximately 2:21 p.m., officers from the Third Precinct responded to a shooting at small homeless encampment located along the railroad tracks on the 4400 block between Hiawatha Av and Snelling Av. They located two adult men and an adult woman who were injured by gunfire. Officers provided immediate medical aid and worked to secure the scene. Despite all lifesaving efforts, the two adult men died at the scene.
Homicide investigators are working to determine the sequence of events that led up to the shooting which includes the possibility of suspects who left the scene on foot. Three adult men were initially detained but were cleared and released. MPD has not ruled out the possibility that this shooting and the triple shooting that occurred on October 26h are related.
MPD Forensic Scientists processed the scene and collected evidence.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the name of the deceased along with the cause and manner of death.
There have been no arrests.
“The cold-blooded killing of three people inside the tent of an encampment is outrageous,” said Chief O’Hara. “All human life matters and encampments are not safe. MPD continues to address crime related issues associated with homeless encampments and the city continues to offer resources. To help end this cycle of violence that is exacerbated by narcotics and mental health issues, it is crucial that the residents of these encampments accept the resourced that are available.”
The GO# for this incident is 24-309683.
