October 21, 2024 (MINNEAPOLIS) Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of a shooting that left a 3-year-old boy dead.
About 12:45 p.m., Second Precinct Officers responded to the 2300 block of Jefferson St NE in response to a 911 call that a 3-year-old boy had been shot. Officers found the boy inside an apartment. Officers provided immediate medical aid with firefighters and EMS. The boy was transported by EMS to Hennepin Healthcare Hospital where, despite all lifesaving efforts, he died.
Investigators are working diligently to determine what happened.
“My thoughts are with the family of this little boy; they have experienced an unimaginable tragedy,” O’Hara said. “The death of a young child has such a profound impact on both the child's immediate family and the first responders who tried so hard to save a life. As we conduct our investigation, I ask for compassion for all those whose lives have been forever altered today.”
Officers secured the scene and canvassed the area.
Minneapolis Forensic Scientists responded to process the scene.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the name of the deceased along with the cause and manner of death.
