(UPDATE) Minneapolis Police Arrest Driver after a Fatal Hit and Run Crash Kills Teenager

All six of the injured people were transported to Hennepin Healthcare Hospital. The injured individuals included:

A 16-Year-Old female who died at the hospital.

Two 14-year-old females who suffered apparent non-life-threatening injuries. 

A 24-year-old man who suffered apparent non-life-threatening injuries. 

A 28-year-old man who suffered apparent non-life-threatening injuries. 

A 29-year-old female who suffered potentially life-threatening-injuries. 

“There aren't words to describe how tragic and senseless it is to lose a 16-year-old female over something like this,” said Chief O’Hara. “There were at least a dozen people in the immediate path of the vehicle as the suspect drove through the crowd.   We are thankful because it's clear we could have had more fatalities, and more people injured.  We will continue to investigate this incident, as senseless as it is, and try and determine what the motive for this could possibly be.”

Minneapolis Police Arrest Driver after a Fatal Hit and Run Crash Kills Teenager

 September 14, 2024 (MINNEAPOLIS) Minneapolis Police responded to 5 St N at Hennepin Av at approximately 12:23 a.m. today on a report of a hit-and-run crash that injured several people.  Six people were taken to Hennepin Healthcare Hospital. One of those transported was a 16-year-old girl. She died at the hospital. One of those transported had potential life-threatening injuries and four of those injured suffered apparent non-life-threatening injuries.  

Preliminary information indicates that an altercation between a group of people occurred in the middle of 5th St N at Hennepin Av.  The suspect, an adult female, got into a vehicle, drove in reverse on Hennepin Av, and then drove the wrong way on 5th St N and into the crowd. 

The suspect drove out of downtown and was followed by witnesses.  MPD, Hennepin County Sherif’s Office Deputies, and the Minnesota State Patrol stopped the suspect vehicle on the 2300 block of Bryant Av N.  

The suspect was arrested and booked into the Hennepin County Jail for murder.

MPD Traffic Unit Investigators and MPD Forensic Scientists processed the scene and collected evidence.

MPD is investigating to determine the sequence of events that led up to the incident.
