September 4, 2024 (MINNEAPOLIS) Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said that at approximately 7:00 pm on September 3rd, Fifth Precinct officers responded to a shooting at 1 Av S/19 St E.
Officers arrived and found a man in his 20s with life-threatening gunshot wounds. Officers provided medical aid to until EMS arrived. Despite all life-saving efforts, the man died at the scene.
Preliminary information indicates the man was in a group of approximately ten people and got into an altercation with a second man prior to the shots being fired, O’Hara said.
“It’s frustrating because this is a location that we know has been problematic in the past. We do have police presence here. It’s frustrating knowing that we can’t prevent everything,” said O’Hara. “We’re here to try and speak on behalf of those that can no longer speak for themselves.”
Officers secured the scene and canvassed the area.
MPD Investigators responded to the scene to determine the circumstances around the incident.
MPD Forensic Scientists responded to process the scene.
The GO number is 24-251651.
No arrests have been made.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the name of the man who died along with the cause and manner of his death.
