Pillsbury Creative Commons Allocation
- Jenkins authored a measure that provided $150,000 to the Pillsbury Creative Commons project, as they continue progress on the South Campus expansion.

Ceasefire Resolution
- Jenkins voted in favor of a resolution denouncing the indiscriminate killing of Palestinian and Israeli citizens and in supporting a full and immediate ceasefire.

Rideshare Ordinance
- Jenkins voted to increase wages for Uber and Lyft drivers, ensuring drivers get paid fairly based on mileage, time, and fees charged by the rideshare company, and approve greater protections and transparency in operations.

Nicollet Mall Pedestrianization
- Jenkins voted for the pedestrianization of Nicollet mall to improve city growth and downtown activity, all while being supported by the implementation of green projects and infrastructure.

Police Contract
- Jenkins voted for the police contract. This means police are held accountable through public and community oversight while ensuring Minneapolis remains a competitive employer.

Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s District Office
- CW Omar has moved her Minneapolis offices to Sabathani Community Center.

$6.9 million to Sabathani
- Sabathani was awarded 6.4 million by the State of Minnesota to help it meet its energy goals and assist the geothermal energy initiative. Additional City of Minneapolis investment of $500k is being made available for workforce development services.

Affordable Daycare
- Kids Care Zone Daycare Center, a nonprofit day care center, operates out of Sabathani.
Tierra Encantada, a Ward 8 Spanish-Immersion daycare, received a $38 million dollar investment; plans to expand services and operations in Ward 8 and other Minneapolis locations

Affordable housing
- Calvary Lutheran Church has been converted to affordable apartments that are available to those making 30% or less of the area’s median income. 41 apartments are now available, and the Calvary congregation still has the space it needs to worship.

38th and Chicago Re-envisioned is working with the community to re-envision the intersection of 38th & Chicago and is engaging with the community to redesign and reconstruct the area using these three street design concepts:

Open concept: maintains vehicle access while restoring Metro Transit’s D Line and Route 5 service.

Transit mall: limits vehicular access to residents and businesses while maintaining access for emergency vehicles and restoring Metro Transit’s D Line and Route 5 service.

Pedestrian plaza: restricts vehicular access to residents and businesses only, while maintaining access for emergency vehicles. Metro Transit’s D Line and Route 5 service will not return to Chicago Avenue, but Route 23 will continue to serve 38th

CM Jenkins speaking at the Black Buisness Week launch
We hosted a successful 4th annual Black Business Week. I co-hosted the kickoff event again this year with Mayor Frey and Council President Payne. Events offered discussion on access to capital, funding opportunities, start-up and expanding, plus challenges and successes. August is national Black Business Month! Help amplify Black Business Month, and support Black business all year!
South Minneapolis Seniors Fair, Wednesday, October 23, 2024, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Diamond Lake Church. This fair is a great way for seniors to connect to their community and the resources that are available to them. Stay tuned for additional info in upcoming Ward 8 e-newsletters.
CM Jenkins touring The Aliveness Project with ED Matt Toburen
The Aliveness Project is expanding and looking forward to opening their clinic this year, which will include a pharmacy. They’ll be able to provide safe and secure HIV treatment for patients seeking care. I’m excited for the ribbon cutting and proud to share this community resource with you.
