Remembering MPD Officer Jamal Mitchell

I began my Friday morning by attending the 6:30am roll call at the 1st precinct, silently watching an officer place a black ribbon on his badge to honor fallen MPD Officer Jamal Mitchell. Officer Mitchell was assassinated by an individual he was attempting to provide medical aid to. He ran into danger to protect our community. Officer Mitchell had been on the force for just 1.5 years and received an award for rescuing an elderly couple from a burning house his third day on the job.

Officer Jamal Mitchell was a son, father, and fiancé. He will be deeply missed by his family and loved ones. I ask that you please keep Officer Mitchell and his loved ones in your prayers, as well as the other victims. Officer Mitchell was a true hero.
