Public Information Release

Minneapolis Police are investigating two shooting deaths that occurred Thursday afternoon.

May 16, 2024 (Minneapolis): Police Chief Brian O’Hara said that two people were shot and killed approximately two hours apart today. However, there is nothing to indicate that the two shooting deaths are related, according to O’Hara.

The first fatal shooting occurred at approximately 12:05 p.m. on the 1100 Block of Morgan Ave N.  Officers responded to the report of a shooting and identified a man in his 20s with life-threatening gunshot wounds.   Officers provided immediate medical care. The injured man was transported to Hennepin Healthcare where he later died.

Preliminary information indicates that an argument among a group of individuals escalated into gunfire.

The second shooting death occurred at approximately 2:15 p.m. in an alley on the 100 Block of W Lake St.  Officers responded to the report of a possible drug overdose and identified a man in his 30s who had been shot.  Officers provided immediate medical aid.  The injured man was transported to Hennepin Healthcare where he later died.

Officers believe that the injured man may be associated with a nearby homeless encampment.

At both scenes, Minneapolis Police Forensic Scientists processed the scene and collected evidence.

MPD homicide investigators are investigating both incidents.

There have been no arrests.

The GO numbers in order of occurrence are 24-131297 and 24-131425.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the name of each man along with the cause and manner for each death.
