December 30, 2023 (Minneapolis): At approximately 3:45 a.m., Officers from the 2nd Precinct responded to reports of a shooting on 600 Block of University Av SE. Officers identified a 40-year-old male suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound lying in the street near the intersection of University Ave SE and 6th St SE. Officers provided immediate life-saving measures until relieved by Fire and EMS. The injured male was transported to Hennepin Healthcare (HCMC). Despite all life-saving efforts, the injured male died at the hospital.
Preliminary information indicates the shooting was related to a physical altercation between a group of people that occurred inside 601 University Ave SE.
Officers secured the scene and canvased the area. Forensic scientists from the Minneapolis Police Forensic Division responded to process the scene and collect evidence. Homicide detectives responded to begin their investigation.
There have been no arrests.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the adult male’s name along with the cause and nature of his death.
