August 12, 2023 (Minneapolis) At approximately 10:15 PM on August 11, 2023, MPD officers from the 3rd Precinct responded to the report of a shooting in the 2200 block of 16th AV S. Arriving officers found multiple people with gunshot wounds. Officers also later learned that additional people had self-transported to area hospitals with gunshot wounds. Despite attempts at lifesaving measures, one adult male in his 30's who was found at the location, died at the scene. Five others – an adult male with a potentially life-threatening gunshot wound, three adult males with nonlife-threatening gunshot wounds, and an adult female with a nonlife-threatening gunshot wound – were taken to HCMC. Two of these adult males were self-transported. One adult male with a nonlife-threatening gunshot wound h self-transported to Abbott Northwest.
Preliminary information, which is subject to change as the investigation continues, indicates that several adults were in a backyard near this location when two suspects walked up the alley and began shooting. The 2 suspects then fled.
MPD is investigating.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will identify the deceased adult male and determine the cause of his death.
