Greetings! We hope our newsletter serves as a resource for staying connected to Hennepin County activities and staying updated on county news and services. Our newsletter comes out the first Friday of each month.
Have content you'd like added? Contact my policy aide Emma Weilage at emma.weilage@hennepin.us
We are always looking for resident feedback on ways to improve Hennepin County's service offerings. If you have an idea, please don't hesitate to reach out. As an elected official, I answer to you.

Honoring Speaker Melissa Hortman
On July 8th, my colleagues and I honored Speaker Melissa Hortman during the board meeting. In honor of her and her legacy, we lit the Lowry Bridge and Hennepin County lowered its flags.

After 40 dedicated years, Hennepin County's Administrator David Hough will be retiring!
At the end of the month, David Hough will begin his new adventure, retirement! He has shown tremendous leadership during some of the most consequential times, from the COVID-19 pandemic to our efforts to drive disparity reductions. From all of us in D1, we want to say congratulations and thank you for your leadership and all of your hard work!

Recognizing our staff during Pretrial, Probation and Parole Supervision Week
From July 20-26, we celebrate Pretrial, Probation and Parole Supervision Week. This is an opportunity to recognize the more than 460 supervision agents and field services staff in Hennepin County who work hard to keep our communities safe.
Today, probation and parole officers act as guides and change agents, helping clients navigate complex systems, connecting them to essential resources, and working collaboratively with other justice system partners.

'A village' of support behind Rayaf Health
The phrase, "it takes a village" came up several times during the recent grand opening of Rayaf Health.
Dr. Farhiyo Abdulle, co-founder and lead medical practitioner, said the journey to opening Rayaf Health in south Minneapolis leaned heavily on Elevate Hennepin support to fulfill the mission of a holistic, people-centered, and culturally competent women’s health clinic focused on providing care to diverse women.

Breaking through complexity with WomenVenture
As an advisor with the Elevate Hennepin, a business support initiative from Hennepin County, WomenVenture uses more than 40 years of experience in small business consulting to break down the complexities of small business ownership.
Advisor Abdiwahid Ali said WomenVenture advisors can help with all sorts of business challenges across all stages of business.
“If you haven’t gotten started, we can work on registering your business,” Ali said. “If a client is looking to scale and grow their business, then we start looking at supporting them in areas such as marketing to look at what their branding looks like.”
Read how these advisors help Hennepin County residents break through complexity and information paralysis to take their business or idea further.

Out and a(boat) in the community + 76th ride along!
This past month, the D1 team was kept busy hanging out with some of Hennepin County's finest. We had the incredible opportunity to ride shotgun (literally!) with the Brooklyn Park Police Department, Brooklyn Park Fire Department, and even got to ride on the Sheriffs boat! To top off this busy month, I completed my 76th ride along!

Grand opening of the Crystal Cove Aquatic Center

New Hope water tower makeover: guess the gallons!
You may have noticed the water tower on the south end of town is wearing a “hat” and sporting a new color! That’s primer and protective draping and is part of the tower’s big paint job, helping to preserve its structure and ensure it continues to serve the community for years to come.
To celebrate this major maintenance project, the City of New Hope is inviting residents to take part in a fun contest!
Guess the Gallons Contest How many gallons of primer and paint will it take to repaint the water tower? Take your best guess! One lucky winner will receive a pair of passes to either the New Hope Golf Course or the New Hope Aquatic Park.
How to Enter Submit your guess by July 31 at newhopemn.gov/guessthegallons. The participant whose guess is closest to the actual number of gallons used will be contacted after the project is complete. In case of a tie, a winner will be selected by random drawing.

Final Environmental Impact Statement
In case you missed it last month, the Metropolitan Council and the Federal Transit Administration have prepared a Supplemental Final Environmental Impact Statement (SFEIS) for the METRO Blue Line Extension project. This document lays out the benefits and impacts of the project including its effects on the environment, noise, pollution, etc., while providing measures that will be taken to avoid, minimize, or mitigate potential negative impacts.

Did you know that Brooklyn Park is home to almost 2,000 acres of parkland?!
Just to put that it in scale:
- Brooklyn Center has about 500 acres
- Crystal has about 263 acres
- Robbinsdale has about 212.46 acres
- New Hope has about 200 acres
- We didn’t forget about you, Osso! We really tried to find info on how many acres of parkland you’ve got but couldn’t track down the numbers. However, to match the amount of green space in Brooklyn Park, Osseo would need around 824 acres!
While the nice weather lasts, check out some of Brooklyn Parks green spaces here! Happy trails!
