A message from Commissioner Goettel

National Night Out 2024 photo collage of community members having a party outside, with Hennepin County branding.

National Night Out earlier this month on August 6 (as always!) was an amazing time spent building community and connections with different blocks across the district.

These types of events really display the best of our communities—and I am so happy to join you all to strengthen neighborhood spirit and organization, join law enforcement to build relationships with block units, play games, have fun, and share food and conversation with one another.

If you want to organize YOUR block for next year in partnership with NNO, use these resources to learn more, get involved, and register your own event in the lead up to 2025.

Apply to join the challenge

Throughout the eight-month challenge, participating households develop a personalized waste reduction plan, receive one-on-one coaching and support, attend educational workshops, receive waste reduction tips, get access to supplies and educational materials, and connect with other households.

The upcoming Zero Waste Challenge will run from September 2024 through April 2025. You must be a Hennepin County resident to participate. Complete the online application by Saturday, August 31.
