Memorial Day in District 7

md

As we gather under the rain and clouds this Memorial Day, we remember the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Their dedication and valor have secured the freedoms we cherish today. May their legacy inspire us to strive for a better, more peaceful world.

I had the honor of attending four services in District 7 - in Plymouth, Rogers, Maple Grove and Maple Plain. I am incredibly grateful and humbled to live in a district that stands united in remembrance and appreciation for those who have given their lives to protect our nation's values.

Hennepin County awarding Dayton and St. Bonifacius money for playspace projects

Youth Sports Grants

Congratulations to the cities of Dayton and St. Bonifacius for each receiving playspace funding from Hennepin County's Youth Activities Grants!

St. Bonifacius is receiving $63,750 for the replacement and enhancement of the playground at Memorial Park. The current playground is nearly 60 years old, so we are thrilled to provide funds for this well-deserved upgrade.

Dayton is receiving $100,000 for the construction of a new playground at Area 21 Park. This playground will serve four new developments and the new families who are excited to call Dayton home.

HCL Youth Advisory Committee

Youth leadership opportunity at Hennepin County Library

Hennepin County Library is accepting applications for a formal Library Youth Advisory Committee. Hennepin County commissioners will appoint a total of 14 youth – two for each district – for one-year terms.

The committee was created to provide youth with real-world opportunities to influence library resources, spaces, and practices to make them increasingly accessible and appealing to all youth. Committee members will develop their leadership abilities and gain lifelong skills for civic engagement.

Applicants must:

  • Live in Hennepin County
  • Be 16-19 years old
  • Be able to serve a 1-year term (September 2024 – June 2025)
  • Commit to a monthly meeting at a Hennepin County Library location, third Thursday of the month from 5:30-7 p.m., and one Wednesday evening in May or June to meet with the Library Board, there may be group work assigned outside of the normal meeting times

Hennepin County Library is committed to supporting Youth Advisory Committee members. The library will work to ensure that technology, internet access, and transportation are not barriers to participation.

Apply online.

This year’s application deadline is Friday, June 7.

If you have questions, please contact Bernie Farrell: bfarrell@hclib.org or 612-543-8141.
