Hennepin and Ramsey County sheriff’s offices offer special assistance during predicted severe weather

January 28, 2019 (Minneapolis) - The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office and Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office are partnering with one another and other County and city/township efforts to assist residents in need during the severe weather this week. The two Sheriff’s Offices are working in conjunction with other organizations to secure temporary shelter for homeless individuals during the severe weather, and soliciting donations of winter clothing and items for those in need.

Both the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office and Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office will host sites where the public can drop off cold weather items, such as hats, mittens, boots, scarves and blankets. Donations of unused cold weather items may be dropped off at the following locations, from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm:

In addition, non-perishable meals are being organized to be made available at all sites. Both the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office and Ramsey County Sheriff’s Offices will have extra patrol on duty to be available to provide transportation to shelter as needed. Deputies will assist in other ways as requested or needed.

“We are doing what we can to get the local homeless population off the streets during this extreme weather,” said Hennepin County Sheriff David Hutchinson. “We are working with agency partners to find shelter for as many people as possible, and those who can’t or won’t leave the streets are being offered supplies to help with the cold. The Hennepin County and Ramsey County Sheriff’s Offices are doing everything in our power to assist this vulnerable population, and we thank the people of Hennepin and Ramsey Counties in advance for any help they can generously provide.”
