Hennepin
County experiences dramatic reduction in crime
September 6, 2018
(MINNEAPOLIS) – Crime statistics show that Part
1 crime is down 15 percent in Hennepin County during the first half of 2018,
when compared to the first half of 2017.
Part 1 crime consists of violent and property crime
combined. The same statistics show that property crime is down 18 percent
during the first six months of 2018 when compared to the previous year.
“Fighting violent crime in Hennepin County remains our
number one priority for the Sheriff’s Office, and the 2nd quarter
stats are a promising sign that county-wide law enforcement efforts are making
a positive impact,” said Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek. “Every day we
utilize all local and federal partnerships, but we also need assistance from
the community—anonymous tip reporting still remains an important tool that law
enforcement depends on.”
The statistics show a one percent reduction in violent crime during the second quarter of 2018 when compared to the second quarter of 2017. Since the end of 2006, Hennepin County has experienced a 26 percent decrease in violent crime.
Violent Crime consists of homicide, rape, business robbery,
personal robbery, and aggravated assault. Property Crime consists of business
burglary, residential burglary, theft of personal property, motor vehicle
theft, and arson.
