Clarifying guidance on the Children’s Mental Health Residential Services Path

In compliance with amendments made by the Minnesota Legislature, the Minnesota Department of Human Services Behavioral Health Division is in the process of determining the implementation process for the Children’s Mental Health Residential Services Path.

On Sept. 30, 2021, we distributed a Behavioral Health e-memo about the process. Since then, the department has been asked to further clarify the memo’s content.

We have created a new document to clarify guidance on using the Children’s Mental Health Residential Services Path. This document:

  • Provides an overview of Families First Preservation Services Act processes
  • Lays out two separate methods of entry in order to receive Children’s Mental Health Residential Services
  • Describes discharge planning and the transition to community process.

The document also provides an update on the current status of the financial allocations work group, which is charged with determining the equitable distribution of funds to counties and Initiative Tribes.

Those with additional questions can contact bhd.cmhResidentialSvcsPath.dhs@state.mn.us.
