Alpena County Land Bank Authority Created

The State Land Bank Authority (SLBA) is pleased to announce the creation of the Alpena County Land Bank Authority. Earlier this year, Alpena County Treasurer Kimberly Ludlow signed an Intergovernmental Agreement with the SLBA to form their own county land bank. With this newest addition to the land bank family, the State of Michigan has formed a total of 51 county and one city land banks. Welcome, Alpena County Land Bank Authority!

Blight Elimination Program Updates

Communities statewide continue presenting and discussing specific projects to submit under round four of the blight elimination program. These proposals are due on Dec. 8, 2023, by 5 p.m. The awards for this round of funding will be announced Feb. 15, 2024. View more information and timelines here.

State Land Bank staff continue to be available weekly during virtual office hours to provide assistance and guidance for current grantees and those interested in applying for round four. The sessions have been well attended and have received positive feedback.

Every Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. staff will be available to answer questions, discuss projects, provide input on proposed projects and generally meet with whomever attends. We hope you will join us.

Capital Access, Inc. to Provide Technical Assistance on Rounds Three and Four

The State Land Bank Authority is pleased to announce the addition of Capital Access, Inc. to the team managing rounds three and four of the blight elimination program. Capital Access, Inc. will assist grantees in meeting compliance responsibilities under the federal funding requirements. A component of this will be an online software tool to manage compliance and the documents required to successfully complete the grant. That tool is expected to be rolled out in the first quarter of 2024. Stay tuned for more information.

SLBA Staffer Presents Study on Redlining

Property Analyst Brian Woodin presented at the MSU Geographic Information Systems User Group Conference this week. His map-based research on the effects of redlining in the 1930's through the 1960's demonstrates the geographic correlation between those areas and today’s blighted and disinvested areas in communities statewide.
