The State Land Bank Authority (SLBA) continues to accept proposals for the blight elimination grant program to help revitalize communities and grow Michigan's economy.
Several applications from land banks across the state have been submitted and two have already signed grant agreements. The SLBA looks forward to receiving more responses before the Jan. 31, 2023 deadline.
Grant funds may be used to:
- Stabilize vacant residential, commercial and industrial buildings to secure them and protect against further deterioration, with the goal of preserving them for future rehab to purposeful use;
- Demolish vacant and blighted residential, commercial and industrial structures that cannot be rehabilitated; and
- Provide matching or gap funding for environmental remediation on vacant land – often a critical barrier to redevelopment.
The Michigan Association of Land Banks has been reaching out to all Michigan counties to set up virtual meetings with county officials and land bank staff to answer questions and provide application support.
