Subject: Moderna bivalent vaccine shortage

Date: September 16, 2022

The Maine Immunization Program recognizes that there has been a temporary delay in the rollout of the Moderna bivalent vaccine. While there may be patient preference for a particular vaccine, the CDC is encouraging practices to order and administer Pfizer bivalent vaccine while there continues to be a Moderna “shortage”.

We anticipate additional Moderna bivalent vaccine to be available for ordering next week. We will notify providers via ImmPact when ordering becomes available.

In the interim, we have increased the ordering allowance for Pfizer bivalent vaccine from 300 doses to 600 doses. We currently have 20,000 doses available for order and can request additional allocations if necessary. Once a provider site has placed an order, a site can place an additional order.
