Comptroller Lierman will stop by ABW Appliances A Better Way in Pikeville at noon today to remind Marylanders that Shop Maryland Energy Weekend – February 18 through 20 – is a great time to replace an old appliance. Shoppers who buy certain new or used energy efficient ENERGY STAR appliance this weekend will be exempt from paying the state’s six percent sales tax.
During her visit, the Comptroller will be joined by ABW’s Co-founder and President Bob Dhyani and his wife and Co-founder Tracy Dhyani along with CEO Ryan Simon and Showroom Manager Terry Hutzell. Also taking part will be Baltimore County Executive John A. Olszewski Jr. and Baltimore County Councilmember Izzy Patoka, District-2 and other elected leaders.
As a business model, ABW maintains a green and sustainable philosophy. In practice, it uses LED lighting at all of its buildings, has an all-hybrid service vehicle fleet and recycles 100 percent of its cardboard.
During Presidents’ Day weekend, the following appliances bearing the ENERGY STAR label, purchased in-store or online, will be exempt from the state’s six percent sales tax: air conditioners, washers and dryers, standard-size refrigerators, furnaces, heat pumps, boilers, compact fluorescent light bulbs, dehumidifiers and programmable thermostats. Solar water heaters are tax-exempt year-round.
