Comptroller Franchot and Comptroller-Elect Lierman will visit two downtown Baltimore businesses Friday morning to promote local retailers as part of the annual Shop Maryland and Save for the Holidays campaign.
The first stop will be at The Peanut Shoppe, which has been a downtown Baltimore institution since 1933. Owner Bonnie Scible has run the business since 1990, making fresh-roasted nuts, brittle, dried fruits and chocolates at several different locations.
Franchot and Lierman then will walk to Viva Books, an arts-focused used and new bookstore that opened last year in the historic Brown's Arcade building. Owner Viva Stowell has been in the book and publishing business for more than 30 years, moving to Baltimore during the pandemic to open her dream store.
As part of the Shop Maryland and Save for the Holidays campaign, participating credit unions in Maryland are once again offering rewards points and incentives to members who make purchases at local businesses through the end of the year.
