25-May-2021 Baker, LA - The City of Baker Office of Economic Development is pleased to announce the partnership with Governor's Office of Broadband Development and Connectivity on the Baker Broadband Initiative,
This partnership allows us to work with the State of Louisiana to cohesively assess community needs related to broadband services by asking residents and businesses to participate in the online speed testing survey. This quick test asks for information related to the location of the residence or business (either full address or partial); following the entry of location the participant will then perform the speed test by following the prompts on the screen. Once the test is complete the information is recorded to the database which will then be evaluated for actual versus advertised internet upload and download speeds. This evaluation will be used to determine where the broadband infrastructure requires improvements.
If residents or businesses are located in an area where they do not have direct broadband access (Digital Subscriber Line (DSL), Cable Modem, Fiber, etc.) there is an option for them to enter their location information as well.
The City of Baker is seeking participation from all businesses and residents beginning today, May 26, 2021 through the next 90 days (three months). At the end of the three month window we will begin our first assessments of the existing infrastructure.
We hope you will join us today and take the speed test! It's as easy as 1-2-3!
