   Dear neighbors,
I want to introduce you to District 10's new Legislative Assistant, Justin Soforo (so-fur-o). Justin started in our office this week, and comes to us from the Metro Council Assistant Clerk role. He knows Metro Council through and through, and gets to overlap with our longtime Legislative Assistant, Geoff Wohl, for several weeks to learn the ins-and-outs of District 10. (More on Geoff's retirement later - sob!)
Justin's background ranges from private investigator work (a real P.I.!) to sports radio (BIG Cards fan over here) to processing open records requests for council. He lives with the loveliest wife and cutest kids near Watterson Elementary. I know you'll like working with him. Thank you, Resource Officer Dan Marsden, and all who participated in LMPD's Prescription Drug Takeback Day last Sunday. A total of 87 boxes of prescriptions were collected. Good job, Louisville!
Spring has sprung throughout D10! Recently, I was able to attend the Dogwood Festival in Audubon Park, where I was able to see the new stone stage in action (my office happily pitched in for its construction). I was also able to be the Grand Marshall of Newcomer Academy's first annual Derby parade and was surrounded by floats, flags, smiley faces and happy families. Finally, I stopped by Jazz in Joe Creason Park and was reminded of how beautiful our parks are and why we should always fund them, which is why we formed a D10 parks event fund (stay tuned for more information on it). I hope you're enjoying this spring season just as much as I am.
Come out on Friday, May 15th from 9:00 AM–4:00 PM for Day Spring’s 5th Annual Spring Fling, a volunteer day dedicated to helping their campus bloom for spring.

Wild Lights at the Zoo is coming back. Starting May 15, you'll get the chance to see the festival debut a new collection of handcrafted Chinese lantern displays, blending centuries-old artistry with imaginative design to create an unforgettable nighttime adventure. Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Spring Subsidy is here to help Kentucky households offset spring cooling costs. Enrollment starts April 20th and runs until May 22, 2026, or until designated funds are depleted, on a first-come, first-serve basis.
All applicants will be required to supply the following documentation at time of application:
- Proof of Residence (Photo ID, property tax bill, lease, etc.).
- Proof of Social Security Number or Permanent Residence card (Green Card) for each member of the household.
- Proof of income from the preceding month for all members of the household.
- Most current electric bill, statement from your landlord if electric is included in your rent, statement from utility company if you participate in a Pre-Pay Electric Program.
- The account number and name on the account for main heating fuel sources and electric bill.
- Assistance received during previous LIHEAP components does not affect a household's eligibility.

Make sure to check out the Shakespeare in the Park tour. This free Kentucky Shakespeare Festival in Central Park runs May 27-August 9, with 5 productions, 55 performances, over 11 weeks.
Music for a Purpose has an upcoming concert to benefit Kentucky Refugee Ministries (KRM).
They will take you on a musical journey around the world, celebrating diversity and cross-cultural influences. The program includes works by Brahms, Jiang, Villa-Lobos, and a selection from the Kronos Quartet’s "Pieces of Africa." They are also pleased to perform "Fiddling" by Teddy Abrams, who is a generous supporter of KRM.
They have four performances scheduled over Memorial Day weekend:
- May 22, Highland Presbyterian Church, 7:30 PM
- May 23, Noble Funk Brewery, 2:00 PM
- May 23, Broadway Baptist Church 7:30 PM
- May 24, Peterson Dumesnil House, 3:00 PM
Their goal is to match the success of our previous Urban League concert, which raised $11,000. All proceeds from these performances go directly to Kentucky Refugee Ministries.
Two public meetings are scheduled to discuss information on why the I-65 closure is needed, what to expect, how to prepare, and how to best get around during the temporary closure. They are also a great place for the public to come ask questions regarding the upcoming project.

Help us save migrating birds this spring: Join the Lights Out Louisville program!
You might know that millions of birds migrate over Louisville every spring and fall. But did you also know that billions of migrating birds are injured or killed each year in the U.S.— and it’s due to artificial light at night pulling them off course or causing them to fly into windows and buildings?
With your help, Lights Out Louisville—a locally focused conservation program sponsored by the Louisville Audubon Society—aims to change that.
By taking a few simple actions, you can help us save migrating birds—and save money on your electricity bill at the same time.
- All it takes: This April and May, between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m., do what you can to reduce artificial light at night.
- That’s as easy as turning off nonessential lights—both indoors and outside—and closing blinds, shades, or curtains.
- By reducing artificial light at night during peak migration months, we give migrating birds a better chance of surviving their long journeys.
