6th District December Officer of the Month - Detective Kayla Helm

a

The Sixth Division Command Staff and Advisory Board selected impact Detective Kayla Helm as the Officer of the Month for December because of her efforts with a long-term investigation involving the arrest of several subjects engaged in an auto theft criminal syndication and the execution of several search warrants in relation.

During the execution of a search warrant at the primary suspect's residence, a subject attempted to flee on foot from the residence, but was apprehended with a stolen handgun. This search warrant also led to the recovery of approximately twenty firearms, including but not limited to; a rifle with a defaced serial number, a handgun recently stolen from a vehicle, and a handgun with a machine gun conversion device. Currency and narcotics were also seized from location and Helm was able to locate and recover another vehicle recently stolen from Simpsonville.

While this investigation is still ongoing and additional arrests are pending, it is a direct reflection of the hard work and effort our detectives have made to effectively address and combat our number one crime trend in the division, auto thefts.  Since the arrest of this criminal syndication, the Sixth Division has experienced a significant decrease in auto thefts, which is promising.

Congrats to Detective Helm for receiving the OTM Award for December and for continuing to serve her community with dedication and distinction.
