Hello Neighbors and Friends,

Louisville Metro is buzzing with activity these days—roads being widened, bridges being repaired, pipes being replaced, and orange cones greeting us at nearly every turn. From I-71, I-264, and U.S. 42 to the Watterson Expressway and I-64, our entire community is experiencing a season of significant infrastructure work. And yes, I know… the construction happening right here in District 7 feels especially overwhelming, particularly during the holidays when we’re all trying to get to and from our favorite shopping spots.

Whether you’re heading to WinterFair at All Peoples Church or indulging in the Shop, Sip & Stroll experience at Brownsboro Center (you can read more about both events throughout this issue), please don’t let the temporary frustration stop you from enjoying the finer things in life that bring you joy. Be patient with the progress. Take comfort in knowing that progress leans toward perfection—and all this dirt, blasting, dust, and noise will eventually lead to smoother commutes, safer roads, and better infrastructure for years to come. It may get worse before it gets better, but rest assured: it will get better. Hang in there!

I’ve also received several comments and concerns regarding the reported JCPS deficit and recent proposals to close or consolidate schools, as well as discussions about adjusting school start times for elementary, middle, and high schools. Please remember that the Louisville Metro Council does not have jurisdiction over JCPS. Decisions regarding the school system are made by the JCPS Superintendent’s Administration and the elected members of the School Board.

District 7 falls within JCPS School Board District 3, represented by James Craig. If you have questions or concerns, reach out to Mr. Craig by phone at (502) 485-3566 or by email at james.craig@jefferson.kyschools.us.

(Oh, by the way, if I invite Mr. Craig to attend the next Muffins with McCraney in December, will you come? Free muffins and coffee sweeten the deal!)

As we approach Thanksgiving, I want to extend my warmest wishes to you and your family. May your holiday be filled with peace, gratitude, and good company. My office is on break this week, so the next eNewsletter will arrive the week of December 1. Enjoy the holiday—and please know that I am truly grateful for the opportunity to serve you.

Happy Thanksgiving!

P.S. This eNewsletter is jammed-packed with information that is most pressing and important to those who are the beneficiaries of some very special events taking place in and around District 7. Please take your time to go through this issue and lend a helping hand, make a donation, or support a cause ---- Just Because...

THANK YOU!

Wreaths Across America

NEEDS YOU!

w

National Wreaths Across America Day is December 13, 2025 at 12 p.m. (Wreath Placement Immediately Following Ceremony) at Zachary Taylor National Cemetery. We're getting closer to our goal, and we need your help to make sure every veteran's grave at our local cemetery is honored with a wreath.

Every December, National Wreaths Across America Day brings the mission—Remember, Honor, and Teach—to life. Volunteers coordinate wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery and more than 5,200 locations across all 50 states, at sea, and abroad, honoring the service and sacrifice of our nation's veterans. Last year, more than 3 million veteran wreaths were placed nationwide!

At Zachary Taylor National Cemetery, there are 11,400 veterans to honor. The goal is to place 11,400 wreaths this year and the total is at 57% currently. Your support can make all the difference! Each wreath you sponsor get makes it one step closer to honoring every veteran at this location.

Sponsor wreaths today by visiting KYZTNL - Zachary Taylor National Cemetery and clicking the Red Sponsor button. Thank you for helping honor every American hero—your support makes a meaningful difference!

THE DEADLINE TO PURCHASE A WREATH IS DECEMBER 1!

Fire Risk Freeze Out

f

As the colder months approach, vacant properties in our neighborhoods face a higher risk of crime, fires, break-ins, and other safety hazards. Unsecured buildings can threaten the safety of our entire community. The Department of Codes and Regulations urges residents and property owners to act now so we can protect our community together.

Property owners are required to keep vacant properties clean and secure to prevent emergencies and stay compliant with city codes. Taking proactive steps now helps avoid costly incidents and keeps everyone safer as temperatures drop.

If you have concerns regarding a vacant or abandoned property, or require guidance in securing your own, please contact our office at (502) 574-2508. Your help plays a vital role in maintaining safe and healthy neighborhoods throughout the winter season.

Let's join forces to freeze out fire risk and protect our community––your action matters!

TARC Bus Art Contest

t

w
 5:48 AM EST November 19, 2025

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — TARC, the major public transit provider for Louisville, Kentucky, is calling on young artists in the area to submit their designs for the 26th-annual "Design-a-Bus" contest.

This year, TARC is partnering with the Portland Museum, challenging students to reflect on a period of change, where they explored or tried something new, and create an illustration of that experience.

This year's theme is "portals of transitions." The theme celebrates a year of new beginnings for both TARC and the Portland Museum.

The 10 winning designs will be unveiled on TARC buses next spring. The winners, their adult guests and their teacher will be invited to the debut.

The winning submissions will be featured on a custom TARC bus wrap and will operate on all bus routes and be features during special events and parades throughout the Louisville Metro for one full year.

The Design-a-Bus contest is open to all elementary, middle, and high school students in Jefferson, Oldham and Bullitt counties in Kentucky, and Floyd and Clark counties in southern Indiana.

Entries should be in marker, crayon, or paint and be square (equal size width and length), ideally 8” by 8” or 11” by 11” on white paper, or created digitally with the same dimensions, and submitted as a JPG, PNG or PDF file. Entries will be judged on visual appeal, creativity, originality, and message. All artwork is to be produced by the student only. AI generated artwork is not allowed.

Shop, Sip, and Stroll

s

The City of Windy Hills is excited to introduce a brand-new community event this year: Brownsboro Center: Shop, Sip & Stroll – Holiday Edition, happening Sunday, November 30, from 5–7 PM at the Brownsboro Road Shopping Center.

This festive gathering was created in response to the ongoing road construction at the Brownsboro/Hubbards intersection, which has significantly impacted traffic flow and accessibility for the businesses in Brownsboro Center. In addition, because the construction has temporarily eliminated access to power on The Green, Windy Hills is unable to host our long-standing Glow on the Green celebration and annual lighting of the giant holiday tree. Rather than cancel a cherished tradition, city leaders saw an opportunity to create something new—an event that brings the community together and supports our local shops at a time they need it most.

Residents and neighbors from surrounding communities are invited to kick off the holiday season with an evening full of festive fun. Guests can enjoy:

  • Complimentary food samples purchased by the City from participating restaurants
  • Holiday tastings and store specials
  • Discounts, giveaways, and unique promotions from Brownsboro Center businesses
  • Raffle prizes, including a $100 gift card to Brownsboro Hardware and Brownsboro Framing Company, and additional gift cards from local businesses
  • A warm, family-friendly atmosphere to start the holidays together

“Shop, Sip & Stroll is our way of supporting the small businesses that are the heart of Windy Hills, especially during months of construction,” said Mayor John Roberts. “We want our residents to feel the magic of the season while giving back to the shops that serve our community year-round.”

The event is free and open to the public, and everyone is encouraged to attend, explore the shops, and enjoy this new Windy Hills holiday tradition.
