Demolition work for I-264 bridge over U.S. 42 (Brownsboro Road) progressing
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (July 22, 2025) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of overnight closures of Interstate 264 East (Watterson Expressway) in Louisville beginning Tuesday, July 22, as part of the $130 million improvement project of I-264 (Watterson Expressway) and U.S. 42 (Brownsboro Road).
During the overnight closures, eastbound I-264 traffic will be diverted via the U.S. 42 (Brownsboro Road) off-ramp at Exit 22. Drivers will cross U.S. 42 (Brownsboro Road) and rejoin I-264 East via the on-ramp located on the opposite side of the existing interchange.
Closures will occur nightly during the following dates and times:
- Tuesday, July 22, from 7 p.m. to Wednesday, July 23, at 5 a.m.
- Wednesday, July 23, from 7 p.m. to Thursday, July 24, at 5 a.m.
- Thursday, July 24, from 7 p.m. to Friday, July 25, at 5 a.m.
Additional overnight closures of the interstate will be necessary in the coming weeks as contract crews continue demolition work. Motorists should use caution, heed signage and allow extra travel time during the scheduled closures.
The interstate improvement project is expected to be completed by the Fall of 2027. More details, including project timelines and traffic impacts, will be shared online as work progresses.
