Walgreens to offer free HIV/STD testing on June 27
Mark your calendar for June 27 as the Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) and Walgreens are providing free rapid HIV, syphilis and hepatitis C tests for the largest-ever National HIV Testing Day activation at 580 stores.
HIV and STD testing will be available on-site in a private area of the store or mobile unit administered by trained counselors with results available in 20 minutes or less. Information about the latest in prevention, including PrEP and doxy PEP, and advances in treatment will also be available.
With ongoing high rates of syphilis, including congenital syphilis (transmission during pregnancy or delivery) along with other STDs in the U.S., the activation expanded last year to include additional testing offerings.
For more information, please visit KFF’s Greater Than HIV and Walgreens National HIV Community Partnership to find a participating Walgreens location near you.
The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness also offers HIV and hepatitis C testing during operating hours our Harm Reduction Outreach Services Program. We also offer HIV, hepatitis C and STI testing at our Specialty Clinic.

National Lightning Safety Awareness Week: Stay safe during thunderstorms
Since its launch in 2001, National Lightning Safety Awareness Week has helped reduce lightning-related deaths in the U.S. from about 55 to fewer than 30 annually—thanks to greater public awareness and safety practices.
Key safety reminders:
- Thunderstorms can develop quickly—don’t get caught off guard, especially during outdoor activities like swimming.
- Lightning risk increases as a storm approaches, peaks when overhead, and lingers as it moves away.
- Many injuries occur because people wait too long to seek shelter or return outside too soon.
Swimming pool safety tips:
- Exit the pool immediately at the first sound of thunder or sight of lightning.
- Seek shelter in a fully enclosed building—open structures like porches or pavilions are not safe.
- Indoor pools can also be dangerous during storms due to water’s conductivity and potential indirect strikes.
