Dear Friends and Neighbors,
This Saturday at 9AM is my regular Coffee With Your Councilman. I hope to see many of you there and I plan on talking a lot about the Mayor’s proposed budget.
I would like to highlight a few items that have been passed at recent Council meetings:
· Ken Herndon and I partnered to request changes so we can convert some of our billboard signs to digital signage. Although we have a few downtown, a lack of guidance has stopped that conversion and this will fix that.
· We have taken a big step forward to finish the land acquisition for the Aiken/Arnold Palmer Road traffic circle. I am diligently working to finalize that project and get moving on next steps.
As I mentioned in my last special newsletter, we are deep into the Mayor’s proposed budget. We are having 2-3 budget hearings each day and this will guide changes to his budget which we will vote on in late June.
A key part of that budget is road paving and maintenance which the Mayor has proposed to fully fund. Recently, after a lot of pressure, the state did repave a large portion of Johnson Road. There is a LOT more work to be done on Johnson but I was glad to see that happen. I did recently meet with the Mayor’s office and they assured me that all road paving for this fiscal year will be done by June 30th. After July the 1st, we will kick off the next fiscal year with another list of roads to be repaved. This is incredibly important to our area and I will continue to stay on top of this.
