Metro Council Committees Summary

Last week Metro Council committees met and adopted several resolutions, ordinances, and held discussions with the Office of Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods on their Love Your Block initiative, heard from officials with the Greater Louisville Food Council, and officers from the Jefferson County Extension Service. 

The Planning and Zoning Committee approved changes in zoning along Poplar Level Road, Aiken Road, Minor Lane, Taylor Boulevard, and West Jefferson Street.  The committee amended a change in zoning to a denial on Cooper Chapel Road and approved a Detailed Development District Plan on Beulah Church Road.  It also requested the Planning Commission review changes to the Land Development Code regarding development along substandard roads and initiated two landmark requests for Wagner’s Pharmacy and Kosair Hospital on Eastern Parkway. 

The Labor, Economic Development, and Appropriations Committee approved several council district appropriations, infrastructure ordinances as well as a TIF for the Joe Ley Antiques building. 

The Public Works Committee adopted an ordinance awarding a communication service franchise agreement with Lumos Fiber and a collective bargaining agreement for various Public Works employees.  The committee also held a discussion with the Office of Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods on their Love Your Block initiative. 

The Government Accountability, Audit, and Appointments Committee approved appointees to the Civilian Review & Accountability, Jefferson County Extension, Library Advisory Commission, PRP Fire Protection District, Police Merit, and Tree Advisory Committee Boards.

The Equity and Community Affairs Committee adopted resolutions urging the mayor to establish Veterans Day as a Metro holiday, approved a Public Health testing contract, and dedicated 13^th Street at Muhammed Ali Boulevard as Old Walnut Way.  The Greater Louisville Food Council also presented to the committee.

The Public Safety Committee approved a couple of contracts for the Office of Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods, an Animal Services contract with Alley Cat Advocates, and accepted two U.S. Department of Justice grants for recidivism and juvenile justice delinquency prevention.  The committee also held a discussion with Volunteers of America on their Office of Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods contract.

The Parks and Sustainability Committee adopted resolutions accepting conservation easements along Billtown and Brush Run Roads, approved an ordinance amending the permitting process for Metro Parks, and a management contract for Quail Chase Golf Course.  The Jefferson County Extension Service provided their quarterly report to the committee.   

The Budget Committee approved ordinances transferring funds for Sylvania Park and Farnsley Moreman projects, reallocated opioid settlement funding, adopted the end-of FY 2024 budget adjustment, and approved budgets for the Jefferson County Sheriff and Jefferson County Clerk’s Offices.  

Metro Council meets again on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at 6:00pm.

Ambassadors will receive comprehensive training in solid waste reduction, reuse, recycling, and composting and serve as waste experts in their communities. 2024 Winter Break Camps

Registration is now open for 2024 Winter Break Camps at Louisville Parks and Recreation Community Centers! These camps are for ages 5-12 and include a field trip.

The Clean Collaborative Crew Clean Up

From November 4 through December 6, they removed 1,742 bags of litter, 64 tires, and 531 other items from 722.23 curb miles and completed 13 service requests, including these areas in District 12:

• Palatka Rd from Manslick Rd to Sanders Gate Rd- 4 Bags
• Lower Hunters Trace from Greenbelt Hwy to Dixie Hwy- 14 Bags, 1 Tire and 3 Other Items
• Valley Station Rd from Dixie Hwy to Valley Station Rd- 3 Bags and 1 Other Item
• Gagel Ave from Dixie Hwy to Manslick Rd- 9 Bags and 3 Other Items
• St Andrews Church Rd from Palatka Rd to Dixie Hwy- 12 Bags and 5 Other Items
• Manslick Rd from Hazelwood Ave to Palatka Rd- 7 Bags and 4 Other Items
• Rockford Ln from Clarion Ct to Dixie Hwy- 9 Bags, 1 Tire and 5 Other Items 
• Stonestreet Rd from Dixie Hwy to Ky 841 Overpass- 7 Bags and 4 Other Items
• Greenbelt Hwy from Lions Arms Dr to Lower River Rd- 23 Bags, 1 Tire and 20 Other Items
• Greenwood Rd from Greenbelt Hwy to Dixie Hwy- 16 bags and 7 Other Items
• 3^rd St Rd from New Cut Rd from Valley Station Rd- 15 Bags, 1 Tire and 4 Other Items

Since January 2024, the Clean Collaborative Crew has completed 247 service requests and removed 15,543 bags of litter, 731 tires, and 3,349 other items from 5,951.03 curb miles.
