Explore Senegal's Dynamic Culture and Make New Friends!
Friday, September 20, 6 PM - 8 PM, Southeast YMCA.
District 21, nestled in vibrant south-central Louisville, is a dynamic mosaic, with 25% of our residents hailing from diverse international backgrounds. To highlight this diversity, we organized a community gathering to exchange ideas and share cultural gifts. Inspired by the historic Silk Road – a converging of multiple routes connecting an array of civilizations – it facilitated trade plus a profound cultural exchange between East and West. We named our project Building Bridges – Silk Road as a bridge for our immigrants and native residents.
Before technological advancements connected our worlds, the Silk Road’s daunting terrain and paths introduced cultures to each other, shaping human civilization. Today, many opportunities exist to learn other cultures, but nothing compares to getting to know our neighbors, and building lasting relationships that help us understand each other’s strengths and common humanity.
Join us at the Southeast YMCA to hear a captivating story from across the Atlantic and gain insights into Senegalese traditions. We hope this project will unite different cultures in our city and foster a stronger, cohesive community.
Delicious cultural cuisine will be served. Bring a friend -- we can't wait to see you there!
