We are so thankful the Friends of Shawnee Library invited Councilwoman Parrish-Wright to attend the Cafe Louie event at Shawnee Library. It was a great opportunity to engage with neighbors and talk about how we can all work together to address everyone's needs.

The District 3 team attended the press conference to announce the historic partnership between Simmons College of Kentucky and Elderserve. We are so excited these two institutions will be launching a program to teach our elders digital literacy, so they can stay connected to their families and other resources, like grocery delivery and pharmacy services. |
Dre and Ben attended the Seven Counties Community Needs Assessment earlier this month to learn from various community stakeholders about how we can best support our neighbors, especially those experiencing acute crises. |

Please join us at Shively Library on March 11th at 6pm for our next District Advisory Board meeting! We'll be talking about topics that matter to YOU! We will also follow up from the last meeting's discussion on what neighborhood strengths, opportunities, and priorities are.
Shively Library 3920 Dixie Highway Louisville, KY 40216
Monday, March 11th, 6:00pm
The Mayor will present his proposed city budget to Metro Council members on April 25th. This lengthy document will detail how city dollars will be allocated for the 2025-2026 fiscal year. Our office has met with representatives from the mayor's office to talk about what our budget priorities are. Because of this, we WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! For example, city dollars can be allocated to metro departments like Public Works. Generally, Public Works is responsible for tasks like repairing sidewalks or paving streets. There is also Resilience and Community Services, whose office administers LIHEAP. That being said, what would you like to see metro funds be allocated to? Please reach out to our office to let us know your thoughts.
Police Accountability: 4 Years of Seeking Justice for Breonna Taylor Amid a History of Abuse of Power and Institutional Harms within the Louisville Metro Police Department
Please join the District 3 office for a press conference here at City Hall on Wednesday, March 13th at 10am. Councilwoman Shameka Parrish-Wright is asking the Inspector General, LMPD Police Chief, The Mayor's Office and the DOJ to give updates, sent a representative, and/or submit a statement on the timeline for proposed police reforms, an acknowledgement of the People's Consent Decree created by the community, and a response to the History of Policing Report.
We will have speakers giving updates on reforms, discuss the People's Consent Decree, and talk about the detailed History of Policing report (found here). Additionally, we want to see community input and accountability to community members. The District 3 office is working with the Jefferson County Attorney's Office to draft legislation to formally recognize community input in police accountability.
In an effort to promote public health and wellness, the District 3 Team has been speaking to the Environmental Health Sciences Club at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. They have graciously agreed to write the following information for our newsletter!
Hello District 3!
Ever wonder how to eat a little healthier but struggling with where to start? Here are a few quick tips:
1. Buy fresh fruit and produce when possible: it’s not always available, but when it is, go ahead and stock up! You can always prep the fruits and veggies, then freeze them for up to 6 months. 2. Buy frozen fruits and veggies: just as nutritious! These may be more readily available and a little bit cheaper too. 3. Take a multivitamin: if you are worried you aren’t getting enough fruits and veggies, take a multivitamin. You can usually find these at local pharmacies or convenience stores! 4. Choose the right packaged foods: sometimes, packaged food is the only thing available and that’s ok. Read those nutrition labels and if possible, pick foods that have no more than 600 mg of sodium or 12 g of sugar per serving.

Who are we? We’re a group looking to understand and educate UofL students about environmental risk factors that affect the health of Kentuckians (like you). We also hope to advocate for improved environmental health for residents like you in the near future!

Please be sure to come out to Brew and Sip at 505 W Broadway on March 9th at 430pm to support one of our local business owners!
One of the most common requests our office receives is: How do I get Metro to support my business or initiative? This is a GREAT question, but the answer is simply, it depends!
If you have a for-profit business, you'll need to reach out to the Office of Economic Development. If you are a direct service nonprofit organization, you can reach out to the Office of Resilience and Community Services, or the Office for Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods. However, we know each person's situation is different, so please reach out to our office directly if you need help. We'll be happy to help you find the right office to support your initiatives, businesses, or organizations.
Please join the District 3 team at the Mill Creek Cleanup on March 23rd at Watterson Lake Park! We will meet at 9am at 1714 S Wheatmore Drive to clean up the Mill Creek area. Gloves and trash bags will be provided and you can get a free t-shirt! If you would like to learn more, please reach out!
