Registration is now open for our Winter Break Camps! These camps are FREE and for children ages 6-12. This two-week camps will include various activities from arts and crafts to athletics and will include a hot meal.

LMPD 8th Division SCAM Alert

We will not ask you for money over the phone! We want to make everyone is aware of a recent scam. Here's how the scam plays out: The victim receives a call from a "professional-sounding" person who identifies themselves as law enforcement and gives actual names of current or former police officers. The scammer gives the victim basic details indicating they know the individual and informs them they have failure to appear/contempt warrants. The phone number is usually spoofed and shows it's from a local police division or department. After some convoluted steps, the scammer offers for the victim to pay for the warrants through Venmo,  PayPal, or another electronic way. We do not know of this being successful for the scammer yet, but it is a concern that public trust is being exploited and the names of LMPD officers are being used. We polled other police departments nationally and have been told this is a scam occurring in other cities around the country. These crafty scammers can be very hard to catch, so we must get the word out. #YourCityShelter Extends Free Adoption Through December Amidst Unprecedented Increase in Shelter Population

In response to the staggering rise in the number of pets seeking loving homes this holiday season, Louisville Metro Animal Services, #YourCityShelter, is delighted to announce the extension of free adoptions through the end of December 2023. The decision comes as the shelter faces an alarming surge of additional animals, highlighting the critical need to find homes for these animals and alleviate the strain on the shelter system.

The 2023 holiday season has presented an unprecedented challenge, with the shelter population continuing to grow. This surge follows an already overwhelming situation at the end of 2022 when shelters were grappling with overcapacity issues. “As new estimates show there are nearly 245,000 additional pets waiting in the shelter system this holiday season compared to last year. Louisville Metro Animal Services recognizes the urgency of addressing this crisis and is committed to making a positive impact on the lives of these animals. By extending the free adoptions, the shelter aims to encourage community members to open their hearts and homes to a new furry friend during this season of hope.

“We adopted 112 dogs and 48 cats during Bissell Pet Foundations' Empty the Shelters Holiday Hope Event. In those two weeks, we took in 162 dogs,” says Director Book. “The continuation of our free adoptions is a crucial step in finding loving homes for these animals and ensuring that they have the chance to experience the joy of a family.”

Free adoptions include spaying/neutering, vaccinations, and a microchip. Prospective adopters are encouraged to visit the shelter to get matched with a new furry friend.

Louisville Metro Animal Services waiving redemption fees through the end of December

Louisville Metro Animal Services (LMAS) is waiving reclamation fees for owned pets through the end of the year. LMAS seeks to ensure that financial constraints do not hinder the reunification of beloved companions with their families. Redemption fees will only be waived for pet owners with no previous violations, and cover microchipping, licensing, and vaccination fees. Court fees will not be waived. Redemption fees are set by the Louisville Animal Ordinance. Local animal laws also require pets to be licensed, microchipped, and spayed or neutered before leaving the shelter.  Pet owners may visit the shelter, at 3528 Newburg Road, Monday through Saturday from noon to 6 p.m., to reclaim their companion animals. The shelter's dedicated staff members will be available to guide owners through the reclamation process, providing support and assistance every step of the way.
