Finding Ways to Help Keep Louisville Cleaner with Litter Abatement!!!

KEEP KENTUCKY BEAUTIFUL!
Keep Kentucky Beautiful is a new collaborative of organizations and people from Louisville, Lexington, Bowling Green, Covington, Newport, and Frankfort who are both experts and passionate about beautification, sustainability, and litter prevention. We started our collaborative in the Summer of 2022 with the purpose of organizing ourselves together over shared values and goals, most notably litter abatement. Kentucky is our home, and we are proud of its natural beauty—thus, we seek to combine our efforts to maintain the cleanliness of our state and educate Kentuckians about the importance of proper waste management and litter reduction. March 3rd through 5th, 2023—with Saturday, March 4th, 2023, being proclaimed “Keep Kentucky Beautiful Day” by Governor Beshear--will be our first “Plogging Across the Bluegrass” Event, where each organization of the collaborative hosts volunteers for a combined run/litter pickup.

Special thanks to Elizabeth Gribbins for her vision and connections in executing, Vanesha Beeler for her administrative support, Lorri Roberts for her leadership, and Rob Lush for his attention to macro level efforts to advance cleanliness.

Waste Management District is sponsoring a new anti-litter outreach campaign – It Adds Up. With the goal of beautifying the city and litter reduction, the campaign centers around messaging that encompasses both the plea not to litter in the first place and a reactive call to action for when residents notice litter.

The 90-day “It Adds Up” Campaign begins today, March 1, and includes images appearing on outdoor digital billboards, bus shelters, and through digital display as well as a streaming audio message.

The website LousvilleWasteDistict.org/litter hosts the landing page that supports the campaign message and provides more information and education around litter and its impact on communities. Digital billboards can be seen along I-65.

Bus shelter signs are personalized to the neighborhood as shown in this Okolona example at Shepherdsville Rd and Outer Loop. Neighborhood 11x17 posters are available upon request. Contact the kNOw Waste Education department if you'd like to hang a poster in your business or at your organization!
