Mosquitos carrying West Nile virus located in 40214

afdsfdasfda

The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness (LMPHW) has found mosquitos infected with West Nile virus in surveillance traps in seven Jefferson County ZIP codes: 40203, 40206, 40208, 40211, 40212, 40214 and 40215.

West Nile virus is endemic to Louisville, meaning it is regularly found in mosquito populations in Jefferson County. Residents should assume West Nile virus is present in all ZIP codes this time of year. No matter what ZIP code you live in, LMPHW advises you to take the following precautions:

  • Use insect repellents when you go outdoors. More information about insect repellents can be found here.
  • When weather permits, wear long sleeves, long pants and socks when outdoors. Mosquitos may bite through thin clothing, so spraying clothes with a repellent containing permethrin or another EPA-registered repellent will give extra protection. Don't apply repellents containing permethrin directly to your skin. Do not spray repellent on the skin under your clothing.
  • Take extra care during peak mosquito biting hours of early morning and dusk.

For more information about where we are fogging, call the Mosquito Fogging Hotline 502-574-6641.

Blanton Lane Water Main Project

afsdasfdfda

Louisville Water’s project to install a new water main in Southwest Jefferson County is progressing, but it is moving along slower than anticipated. Blanton Lane remains closed between Mills Drive and St. Andrews Church Road, while crews work to complete the installation of the new water main. Due to supply chain issues the work has been delayed. They now hope to have their work completed on Blanton Lane in October. Above is a detour map for the closure. A postcard is being mailed to customers informing them of this delay. They greatly appreciate your understanding as they work to complete this important project.

Louisville Metro reopens applications for Landlord-Tenant Rental Assistance Program

sfdasfdaasfd

Louisville Metro Government is now accepting applications for its Landlord-Tenant Rental Assistance Program (LTRAP), allowing landlords to request bulk rental assistance on behalf of tenants who are behind on rent due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The goal of the program is to streamline the process for rental relief and reduce paperwork barriers, including requiring tenants to sign an income and COVID-19 certification rather than providing a paystub. Tenants can still apply for rental assistance through the state's Healthy at Home Eviction Relief Fund by visiting https://teamkyhherf.ky.gov or calling 833-597-3687.

Eligibility requirements for LTRAP include:

  • All multi-family or single-family rental properties in Louisville-Jefferson County can apply except for households located in the following zip codes: 40223, 40023 or 40059.
  • Assisted households must be less than 80% of Area Median Income at the time of application.
  • Application must be for four or more units under the same legal entity.
  • Landlord must waive all late fees, fines due to late rent, and penalties due to late rent for the period of which assistance is being provided.
  • Landlord must be willing to forgo evictions for assisted tenants for a total of 45 days after assistance is provided and after that 30 days, must provide a 15-day notice before filing an eviction. The landlord must also agree that any outstanding rent from the period prior to April 1, 2020 will not be the basis for any future forcible detainer action.
  • The property must be currently registered on the Jefferson County Rental Registry, and there may be no outstanding code violations for the property for which rental assistance is being requested.

The city allocated $1 million of its remaining rental assistance funds to the program. With limited funding, landlords are encouraged to apply for the funds as soon as possible. Contact the Office of Housing and Community Development at 502-574-1707 or evictiondiversion@louisvilleky.gov with any questions.

Mill Creek Greenway Project

sasfdsdfsd

Louisville Parks and Recreation’s Natural Areas division invites community members from Southwest Louisville to participate in the creation of a conceptual master plan for the Mill Creek Greenway. This exciting project will transform about eight miles of Mill Creek and adjacent publicly-owned land between Sylvania Park in PRP and the power plant south of Valley Station. Thanks to a grant from The Nature Conservancy, landscape architects/planners will work with residents and other stakeholders on a plan to bring this waterway to life. The result will be a roadmap for a new public greenway for outdoor recreation. Given its scope, the project has the potential to be one of the nation’s largest urban stream mitigation efforts.

If you live in Southwest Louisville and would like to get involved, please click here and fill out the interest form found above the resources section.

Summer Reading & Cultural Pass Make for a Great Summer

asdffdsasdaffsd

The Louisville Free Public Library’s annual 10-week Summer Reading Program encourages children and teens to read for fun over the summer and helps them avoid summer learning loss.

School-aged children simply read ten books, teens read six books, and preschool-aged children and younger need to read, or have read to them, 20 books to complete the program. Studies have shown that children who participate in public library summer reading programs increase their enjoyment of reading, improve their reading skills, and return to school better prepared to learn.

The 2022 Cultural Pass offers individuals ages 0-21 in Greater Louisville access to arts and culture activities provided by 57 venues, free of charge, from June 1 through September 4, 2022.

The Cultural Pass is designed to inspire, explore, and discover new experiences. This year’s Cultural Pass will offer both in-person and virtual opportunities so that every family can participate in a way that works for them! On the first Saturday of June, July, and August Cultural Pass participants can also attend Cultural Pass Days - click here to learn more. LFPL’s Summer Reading Program and Cultural Pass start June 1 and are FREE to all area youth. You can pre-register now for both programs online or by downloading the Beanstack Tracker app (for iOS or Android). Cultural Passes will be available for pickup June 1st at LFPL libraries.

On Saturday, June 4 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., you can participate in Summer Reading Kickoff and Cultural Pass Day at the Main Library.  Enjoy FREE crafts and activities from the Library and Cultural Pass venues, as well as magic, face painting, and live performances from the Louisville Leopards, Flamenco Dance, and Redline Performing Arts. PLUS - food trucks will be available, so you can have lunch on site too.

Blevins Gap Bridge Update

asfdsfsafd

"The culvert on Blevins Gap Rd has encountered 2 issues which will delay construction.  First, I sent over the construction items for Louisville Paving, who hold the Metro Safety improvements contract, to price for me to try and avoid more time going through procurement.  Upon reviewing the request.  They immediately responded back to let me know that the beams needed to support the bridge deck would not be available until September at the earliest.  Upon hearing that news, I asked our consultant if there were any design alternatives and what those increased costs may be which they replied that they anticipated lead time challenges regardless of what changes they could possibly make.  This does not surprise me given the current times.

Secondly and in addition to this, we were notified yesterday from the consultant that there are endangered long-eared bats in the area which utilize trees that need to come down in order to complete work.  The Corp of Engineers is requiring us to not cut down trees until October 15 or later, otherwise we would be required to make a contribution to assist in relocating the bats. We reached out to the Corps of Engineers to discuss our position and they strongly recommended that we not try to expedite construction.

Given these issues, I still want to complete the project this year if possible.  I was informed that we can start construction as long as we did not remove the trees, so I will push to get as much done as we can between now and October.  But, we will not be able to complete the project in summer of 2022 as I had originally hoped.

We apologize for any inconvenience to those affected.

Please contact myself or Jeff Brown through email if needed.  I will keep you updated of any other news regarding this project as it comes to my attention."
