Councilwoman Holton Stewart will be hosting two clean-up groups on Saturday, April 16 at 9:30am:

  • Group 1 - Meet at the corner of New Cut Road and 3rd Street Road, then move to Southside Drive & Strawberry Lane
  • Group 2 - Meet at the corner of Dixie Highway and Valley Station Road, then move to East Pages & 3rd Street Road

First Tee—Louisville Takes over Operations at Bobby Nichols Golf Course

First Tee — Louisville took over operations last month at Bobby Nichols Golf Course, located at 4301 East Pages Lane adjacent to Waverly Park in Southwest Louisville.First Tee — Louisville will manage the nine-hole course, which has been operated by Louisville Parks and Recreation staff members for the past two years. Bobby Nichols is the second Metro course First Tee — Louisville will oversee. It took over management of Shawnee Golf Course in 2020 after more than a decade of partnership with the city relating to youth golf programming. firstteelouisville.org

Future Dreamers Application NOW OPEN!

Future Dreamers is a community-centered leadership course that cultivates a network of lifelong advocates and ambassadors for South and Southwest, builds community social capital, and acts as a pipeline to fill leadership roles in the city with members and supporters of South Louisville.

Leaders explore Asset-Based Community Development, Neighborhood Development, Local Economies, Local Government, and Arts & Culture.

Now in its fourth year, the Future Dreamers Civic Leadership Academy has graduated 40 leaders from 13 zipcodes.

  3. Call Metro311 or 574-5000 to report potholes or any other issues.
  4. To report a pothole on an interstate in Jefferson County, go to the “contact us” dropdown menu and select “report a hazard” on KYTC’s website http://transportation.ky.gov or click here.

Forest Fest is Back - May 21st

Forest Fest returns in 2022 after a two year hiatus!

We are excited to announce, after a 2 year hiatus, the return of Jefferson Memorial’s 15th Annual Forest Fest on Saturday, May the 21st.  

We are anticipating a large attendance this year upon Forest Fest's return and the desire for live music by the community.


Brightside Community-Wide Cleanup

The Spring Community-Wide Cleanup is happening Saturday, April 16th! Be a part of this city-wide event to keep Louisville looking bright and beautiful by finding more information here. Registration will open February 28th.

We encourage all residents make a difference by taking part in our Community-Wide Cleanup-- it is a great service opportunity for boy/girl scouts, sports teams, faith groups, community organizations, and corporate teams. 

Neighborhoods can hold their own cleanups at any point throughout the year and we can provide gloves and bags for each Neighborhood Cleanup. We will work with Solid Waste Management to have the collected litter bags picked up. Give us a call at (502) 574-2613 or register online about two weeks prior to your event to schedule your cleanup and for information about getting supplies. 


Brightside Stash the Trash Campaign

Brightside is excited to announce the launch of the newest anti-litter campaign, Stash the Trash. The goal of the campaign is to remind people to “Stash” their trash and litter in appropriate containers or trash cans. 

Fund the Daffodils

Brightside’s second awareness campaign centers around a renewed fundraising effort for Daffodils! The organization is hoping to raise awareness and funding to spread yellow blooms to even more locations throughout our city. Brightside will also be “Lighting the Town Yellow” from March 24 – 30th with partners at the LG&E building, Big Four Bridge, MSD, Independence Bank, and the Lynn Family Stadium just to name a few changing their lights to yellow to celebrate Brightside’s daffodils! Southend Beautification Campaign - Call for Volunteers & Trees!

Southend Beautification Campaign – Tree Planting with Louisville Grows and Brightside will be held April 8th and 9th. We will be planting in the Southland Park, Southside, and Iroquois (including along New Cut) Neighborhoods 167 trees thanks to an MSD grant.

April 9th is 8:30am-2pm (Neighborhood Volunteer Day). 

Louisville Grows needs neighbors and community members to volunteer to canvass door-to-door to get tree commitments.

Free Tax Preparation Service for Eligible Louisville Residents

VITA and AARP Tax Aide programs provide trained, IRS-certified volunteers to offer free tax services online or at select drop-off sites. VITA is available to individuals and families who earned less than $66,000 in 2021. AARP Tax-Aide’s mission is to serve any person who comes through the door, with special attention to those 60 and older. 

January 24 is the first official day for filing tax returns this season. This year, due to the COVID pandemic, several of the VITA sites will prepare in-person free tax filing by appointments only, and most of the sites will provide free tax filing through drop-off services. Individuals can visit getyourrefund.org to have their taxes prepared online.

Volunteers may visit MyFreeTaxes.com to access free software programs offered in partnership by United Way Worldwide and TaxSlayer. LABC is proud to be a member of the Tax Time Allies and has received funding from the Intuit Freedom Foundation to increase access to VITA and free software programs.

To help preparers accurately determine EITC eligibility and prepare returns, individuals should bring: 

  • Picture ID and Social Security cards for everyone listed on the return

  • Other 1099s for interest, dividends, state tax refund or other income
  • Form 1099-G for any unemployment compensation received during the year
  • 1095-A for health insurance
  • 1098 for education credit, plus a detailed financial statement from the school
  • Bank account number and routing number for direct deposit as well as savings account number (if applicable)
  • If you do not have a bank account, we can help you open a Bank On certified account.
  • Childcare information, including Provider ID and actual amounts paid
  • Summarized list of other income/expenses for those who itemize or are self-employed
  • Additional tax information that may be required

The campaign will give residents bulk-purchasing power to obtain discounted wholesale rates for solar installation. Going solar will help you reduce your energy bills, potentially increase your property’s value, support local solar jobs, and help Louisville meet its goal of using 100% clean energy community-wide by 2040!
