The best way to prevent shelter overcrowding is to spay or neuter your pet. Jefferson Country residents are eligible for a $100 spay-neuter voucher, which can be redeemed at the Kentucky Humane Society’s S.N.I.P. clinic or at a local veterinary office, at the time of the procedure. To get a voucher, visit the LMAS Shelter located at 3528 Newburg Road from 12-6pm, Monday-Saturday. Please bring with you photo identification and proof of residency. Vouchers are limited to one per household. For more info or questions, contact LMAS at animals@louisvilleky.gov. If you have a Pit Bull or bully breed, you do not need a voucher. The Kentucky Humane Society’s S.N.I.P. will spay-neuter your pet for free! For more info, click here. (https://www.kyhumane.org/snipclinic)

Cat of the Week:
Meet Nancy who is a champion in more ways than one. The stunning 3-year-old, black-and-white cat has been at the shelter since November 2020, when she arrived sick and injured. Nancy’s tail had to be amputated; she’s missing teeth and suffers from seasonal allergies like a lot of people. She’s not perfect, but who is? Nancy would still be a great, loving companion. Nancy’s adoption fee is waived for an approved adopter thanks to the Pay It Forward Program. Nancy weighs seven pounds. She’s already spayed, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations. Her adoption also includes three years of wellness checks and vaccinations. To meet or adopt Nancy, visit Animal House Adoption Center located at 3516 Newburg Road, from 12-6pm daily. For more info about Nancy, call 502-473-PETS.
Dog of the Week
Do you have room in your heart and home for senior shelter pet? Give Ray B. a second chance forever family by adopting the very friendly, 7-years-young Labrador Retriever mix. He still has a pep in his step and enjoys playing with toys. Unlike a younger dog or puppy, Ray B. is laidback and doesn’t mind entertaining himself when your busy with work or chores around the house. He’ll occasionally come up to you for affection and to let you know how much he appreciates you. Ray B.’s adoption fee is waived for an approved adopter, thanks to the Pay It Forward Program. Ray B. weighs 70 lbs. and he’s already neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on vaccinations. Ray B. can be tested with potential fur siblings by request, although he isn’t crazy about cats and prefers to avoid them. As for their feline wet food, that’s fair game! To meet or adopt Ray B., visit Animal House Adoption Center (3516 Newburg Rd.), open from 12-6pm daily – no appointment required. For more info about Ray B., email LMAS at animalservicesadoption@louisvilleky.gov.

School is out for the summer and plans for vacation are being finalized. Don’t forget that criminals are always ready to put a damper on that great vacation. Before heading out make sure you lock all doors, garage included. If you are a Jeffersontown resident stop by the police department to request a House Watch form before leaving. Have the post office hold your mail or ask a trusted family member / friend to keep an eye on things. Consider using timers on your lights in your home to give the impression that someone is there. Please do not advertise on social media that you will be away!! Enjoy your trip and post the photos when you return.
If you expect a delivery, be mindful of the delivery time, if you are not going to be home, ask your neighbor or friend to watch for it.
Headed to the ballpark? Secure everything inside the trunk of your vehicle if you can. Thieves love to target parking lots of ball fields looking for purses or wallets in cars. If you remove the opportunity to commit crime, you can easily prevent the hassle and heartache of becoming a victim.
