The Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness announced today that the Pfizer vaccine will be distributed through the LouVax site beginning March 10. This transition is due to a change in allocation from the state, partially due to our ability to better handle the regulatory requirements of the Pfizer vaccine compared to smaller health departments in Kentucky. Those who received the Moderna vaccine as their first shot will still receive the Moderna vaccine for their booster. Click here for more information on scheduling appointments.
It was also stated today that the number of positive cases (23.6/100,000) declined for the eighth straight week. This puts us at alert level orange for the first time since October. In addition, more than 85,000 people in Metro Louisville have now completed both doses of vaccine. Of course, we can't get complacent just yet. Please continue to wear masks where appropriate, practice social distancing, and wash your hands frequently.
Finally, the LouVax site will complete booster shots for educators on Tuesday. The focus for the remainder of the week will be getting adults age 60 and above vaccinated.
Goose Creek Road is one of the roads covered by the new Clean Collaborative Crew.
Metro Public Works has a new tool to combat litter in the city. The Clean Collaborative Crew, consisting of 13 staff members, hit the streets February 24th and has already collected 445 bags of litter along 44 miles of roadway. They have specific routes they work, though those may change over the coming months depending on what they find. The current list includes 17.6 miles of roadway in District 17:
- Goose Creek Road (from Brownsboro Road to Westport Road)
- Westport Road (from Chenoweth Lane to La Grange Road)
- Collins Lane (from Westport Road to Old La Grange Road)
- La Grange Road (from Reamers Road to North English Station Road)
- Chamberlain Lane (from Brownsboro Road to Old La Grange Road)
I am appreciative of this response to a concern I have heard from many of you and look forward to a cleaner Louisville in 2021.
The MetroSWAP Zone located at 2927 Goose Creek Road.
On Tuesday, Major Andrea Brown from LMPD's 8th Division joined our virtual coffee meeting. I wanted to share a few things she mentioned that might be of interest to you.
We all know how important it is to take steps that minimize our chance of being the victim of a crime. A statement Major Brown made Tuesday really drove that point home. Close to 90% of recent thefts from automobiles involved a car that was either unlocked or had valuables in plain sight. That is a shocking number. It does, however, serve as a reminder that we can do our part to help the police (and ourselves) by locking our vehicles, putting things away, closing garage doors, etc.
It is not uncommon for me to hear concerns related to traffic - speeding, abandoned vehicles, traffic enforcement, etc. Major Brown has heard those concerns as well and has taken a creative step to help address them. The 8th Division now has a dedicated traffic officer responsible for responding to these very issues. The officer has quite a large area to cover (the 8th Division covers nearly 90 square miles), but I appreciate Major Brown's responsiveness to those who live in the 8th Division.
Major Brown also mentioned that the 8th Division is one of four police stations serving as a MetroSWAP Zone. These sites are under 24-hour video surveillance making them good places to meet where the shared custody of a child is involved or even to exchange an item bought or sold online. If you haven't yet had the chance to join us for one of these virtual meetings, I hope to see you soon!
As the weather warms and people begin to venture outside a little more often, many of us think of our favorite park. Louisville Parks and Recreation is working with local and state public health officials to safely reopen certain park amenities as we work through the pandemic.
Currently, open amenities include golf courses, dog parks, playgrounds, and hiking trails. Those not yet available include community centers, adult sports leagues, and facility rentals. Click here for a complete list and up-to-date announcements.
The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on March 18 regarding the above request to change the zoning at 4308 Rollington Road. The proposal includes 81 single-family lots and a waiver allowing some of the rear yards to overlap a drainage easement by more than 15%. The development would include a connection to Holly Forest Road.
