Former Central HS Head Football Coach, Tyrran Scroggins, passed last week from coronavirus. He was the first black coach to win a state football championship. After that historical win in 2007 he had a repeat in 2008, then a three-peat in 2010, 2011, and 2012. The way he won championships was an example of his game, but the way he made fellowships was an example of his aim. He aimed to show his students that they weren't just athletes. Overtime they became brothers. From mentorship to fellowship to championships, he was a shining example of leadership. He may be gone from this earth physically, but he remains on this earth spiritually through thousands of students he coached to victory every single day. Coach Tyrran Scroggins will always be Kentucky Black History.

COVID-19 Utility Relief Program
Mayor Greg Fischer joined Louisville Metro Council members and utility partners in announcing the start of the city’s $10 million COVID-19 utility assistance program, designed to help residents who have fallen behind on LG&E, Louisville Water and Louisville MSD bills as a result of COVID-19. Additional Funds Available to Help Residents Facing Eviction
The city’s Office of Resilience and Community Services will start accepting new appointments for those in need of rental assistance because of financial hardship resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. For more information click here.
LIHEAP
The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps prevent low income residents of Jefferson County from being disconnected from utility services. To apply and for more information click here.
Metro Council
In an unanimous vote, the Louisville Metro Council has passed an Ordinance requiring all departments of Metro Government to map out their equity goals in order to measure the success of the services and programs they provide. For more information click here.
Shelter Availability
There are still beds available for those in need of shelter. For an emergency shelter bed referral, please call 502-637-2337. Once the hotline is closed, please call the shelters directly for assistance.
Free Tax Services
The Louisville Asset Building Coalition’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, or VITA, and AARP Tax Aide programs provide trained, IRS-certified volunteers to offer free tax services via online or at select drop-off sites. The service is available to individuals and families who earned less than $66,000 in 2020. For more information click here.

Louisville Seedbank
The Louisville Seedbank Project is using donated seeds to have monthly free giveaways and encouraging urban agriculture in Louisville neighborhoods. The pilot will be focused on the Smoketown, Shelby Park, and Russell neighborhoods Spring 2021 with the goal to make this county-wide similar to checking out books from a library. Two-Way Street Conversion
Louisville Metro Council allocated $1 million in the Fiscal Year 2021 budget for safety improvements to Louisville's one-way streets, with a focus on streets in West Louisville. Chestnut Street/River Park Drive and Muhammad Ali Blvd were identified as priority corridors for these safety improvements. For more information click here.
