| Dear Neighbor,
Friday we announced the opening of additional opportunities to get vaccinated. You have probably read by now that those opportunities were quickly spoken for and that the number of folks who tried to sign up for an appointment overwhelmed the system. Currently they have scheduled appointments for the next five weeks. No matter how frustrating it is (and it is truly frustrating that we didn't better prepare for this important distribution of critical life-saving vaccine), please be patient and kind to anyone you ask for information. We hope the system can begin accommodating many more people soon.
Check out the state and local websites for more information.
Have a nice weekend,
Brent T. Ackerson 26th District Councilman
On Monday, January 18, we began vaccinating people in tier 1B. That group includes:
- Non-medical first responders (police officers, firefighters)
- Corrections workers
- K-12 school personnel (educators)
- Individuals age 70 and over
If you are age 70 and over, click HERE to request an appointment.
If you are a non-medical first responder, corrections worker, or work in private or public K-12 school systems, you do not need to take any further action. We are working with your employers to schedule your appointments.
The health department states that less than 10,000 appointments are opening next week. Additional slots will become available as the state allocates more doses of the vaccine.
Metro Health anticipates that it will take three months to vaccinate individuals in tier 1B. Please be patient follow the health department on Facebook, Twitter, check our website for updates on appointment openings and to subscribe to COVID-19 health alerts via email.

Since we have some reports of early setting out of large items for Junk Collection, we wanted to remind everyone in the Urban Services District that the collection window for our district (which falls in Section K) isn't until next month, specifically Feb. 18-19. Please keep your items inside until then as their deterioration may cause Public Works to reject their collection.
Also, please know that they have been much stricter in collection guidelines in recent years compared to pre-2019. Public Works will NOT likely collect anything outside their published guidelines.
Regular yard waste collection within the Urban Services District has been suspended through April 5th as a budget-cutting move to reduce the number of trucks operating in low demand months.
During this period, you may request collection as needed during this time through MetroCall at 574-5000.Regular weekly collection will resume the first week of April.
