With the distribution of vaccines for Covid-19 now underway, Legal Aid Society wants the community to be aware of scams seeking to take advantage of the elderly and other vulnerable populations. Seniors should be particularly vigilant for callers, texters or visitors seeking money or their private information in order to receive a vaccine. Legal Aid Society has put together an easy to print flyer (attached) for you to share with your community, clients, and/or friends.
This month the United States Department of Health and Human Services issued the following tips to protect yourself from Covid-19 fraud:
• You will NOT be asked for money to improve your ranking for vaccine eligibility
• Government and State officials will NOT call you to obtain personal information in order to receive the vaccine, and you will NOT be solicited door to door to receive the vaccine.
• Medicare will NOT contact you to offer you Covid-19 related products
• Do NOT respond to or open any text messages or hyperlinks from unknown senders
• Be suspicious of any unexpected calls or visitors offering vaccinations, tests, or supplies*
If you are 60 years or older and believe you have been a victim of fraud, contact Legal Aid Society’s Elder Justice Fellow at (502) 614-3154 or btaylor@laslou.org to see what assistance may be available to you. Legal Aid Society’s Elder Justice Program is generously support by Atria Senior Living.

Crime Prevention Newsletter
January 2021
Happy New Year! Let us say goodbye to 2020. Technology has introduced more complicated crimes such as electronic fraud, hacking, and identity theft. Simple steps can be taken to help prevent such crimes. Do not give out personal information over the phone. Make sure the website you are on is legit. Government agencies will not contact you and ask for payment in the form of gift cards or ask you to send cash. So if someone calls and wants you to pay a fine you didn’t know you had.
HANG UP THE PHONE AND VERIFY!
One thing that has been found to be consistent is criminals do not take a break when it is cold outside. Please keep your vehicles free of valuables, and LOCK vehicle doors. And, as usual, notify the police if you spot suspicious activity in your neighborhood.

Metro Animal Services Adoptable Pets of the week
Woop Woop may be blind but so is love. Do you have room in your home for this sweet senior? Woop Woop is approximately 9-years-old and she is a very friendly who enjoys being petted. Woop Woop can be fearful because of her blindness, so she doesn’t like surprises. However, she warms up quickly to new people who first put their hand by her face or gently pats her head. Woop Woop’s adoption fee is waived for an approved adopter, thanks to the Pay It Forward Program. She’s already spayed, microchipped and up-to-date on vaccinations. Woop Woop’s ideal home would be calm with plenty of big, warm blankets to cuddle under. To meet or adopt Woop Woop, visit Animal House Adoption Center, located at 3516 Newburg Road, open from 12-6pm daily. For more info about Woop Woop, call 502-473-PETS.
Flick also goes by the title of ‘awesome dog’. That’s because the approximately 2-year-old German Shepherd mix has all of the qualities of a great companion. Flick is friendly, sweet and affectionate. He likes hugs and being held, and absolutely loves kisses! Flick is even housetrained. He does have one tiny problem though, he doesn’t like cats and he’s proud of it! If you have a cat-free home for this toy-crazy bachelor, then he wants to meet you. Flick’s adoption fee is waived for an approved adopter, thanks to the Pay It Forward Program. To meet Flick, visit Animal House Adoption Center (3705 Manslick Rd.) from 12-6pm daily, no appointment necessary. Flick weighs approximately 57lbs. He’s already neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on vaccinations. For more info about Flick, send a message to animalservicesadoption@louisvilleky.gov.
