VOTE!!!
It is time to engage in, what I would argue is the most important civic responsibility of a citizen of a republic and that is to VOTE! In the history of the world, only a small minority of people have had the opportunity to select who they want to represent them in government, and we are thankfully part of that minority. That right was forged through the sacrifices of many men and women who came before us and therefore, it is our solemn duty to vote to maintain that legacy which was so bravely secured by our forebearers.
I want to stress the importance of getting out to vote. Every election cycle we all hear the same mantra, “This is the most important election of our lifetimes”. I always find this statement to be logically flawed. Every single election is the most important of our lifetime. Why? Because all the other elections in our lifetime are over and we know the consequences. The next election defines who we want leading us through the next unforeseen time period. For example, I was born in 1977. The first Presidential election of my lifetime was Reagan/Carter. Who would have predicted events like Beirut, Grenada, or the finality of the Cold War? When Bush (43) was elected, who predicted the attacks on 9/11? Finally, when President Trump was elected, who predicted that a foreign country would introduce to the world an infectious disease the likes of which we haven’t seen in 100 years?
