Kentucky Transportation Cabinet • District 5, ROADSHOW for week of September 13, 2020

Kentucky voters will have three ways to cast their ballots for this November's elections.

Election Day – November 3 - is less than eight weeks away and time is running out to register and make a plan to vote.

The deadline to register to vote is October 5 at 4:00 p.m. local time. Register, check or change your registration at GoVoteKY.com.

ABSENTEE VOTING:

Now through October 9, individuals concerned about contracting or spreading the coronavirus may request an absentee ballot via an online portal at GoVoteKY.com. The process is very simple and fast. Ballots will be mailed later this month to those requesting them through the portal. To ensure all votes are counted, absentee ballots are required to be postmarked by Election Day, November 3, and received by November 6. For those concerned about postal delays, County Clerks will offer secure drop boxes to deposit absentee ballots. Locations will be announced soon.

EARLY IN-PERSON VOTING:

Beginning Oct. 13, three weeks before the election, every Monday-Friday until Election Day, and every Saturday for at least four hours, every county clerk will provide a location for safe in-person voting. Jefferson County early voting locations are expected to be announced soon.
Early voting is not absentee voting – anyone can vote early for any reason.

ELECTION DAY VOTING:

There will be polling places on Election Day, but the number and locations will be reduced from elections prior to the pandemic. Voting sites will be announced by the Jefferson County Clerks Office soon.

Resolution of No Confidence to be heard at the next Metro Council Meeting

At this week's Public Safety Committee, committee members voted (3-3) on Resolution (R-110-2020) seeking a no confidence vote on Mayor Fischer’s leadership. The resolution will go before the full Metro Council for final action at the Thursday, September 17th Council Meeting (meeting begins at 6:00 PM).

Beware of scams surrounding Hurricane Laura. Give to experienced organizations that you know and trust. Be wary of claims that 100% of the donation will assist relief victims. Don’t fall for pushy appeals for donations. A legitimate charity will take your donation any time. For more tips, check out BBB’s Wise Giving Alliance at www.give.org.
Don’t fall for a text message scam that claims to be a package delivery notice. Companies like DHL, FedEx, UPS, and Amazon won’t send a text like this. Don’t click on the link. Block the number that sent you the message. Copy the message and paste it into a new text message and send to the Federal Trade Commission at 7726.
A local consumer bought a pressure cooker online, for a great price. The website asked her to pay through PayPal. The website disappeared, and the consumer received a package that was facemasks that she didn’t order. Scammers are using tracking numbers to con consumers and are exploiting a PayPal policy showing that a “package” was actually delivered, therefore consumers are not getting their money back for items they didn’t order. It’s a tracking code trick that is costing online shoppers!
Scammers are tricking job seekers after they post their resume on indeed or other online job boards. A local consumer received an email from a “business” offering her a job to inspect packages. The scammers asked for bank account information to direct deposit a paycheck. This is a scam!
Double check that email from your “boss.” A local consumer received an email from her “boss” asking her to purchase six $200 Amazon gift cards for staff. It was to be a surprise, so keep it confidential. The employee bought the gift cards, then was told by the “boss” to scratch the back of the cards, take a picture of the codes, and email them. This is a scam!
Beware of fake grant offers. A local consumer received a message through Facebook Messenger from an “Agent Tom Brown,” who appeared to be from the Home Care and Family Support Grant Program – with the U.S. Government. To qualify for a cash grant, the consumer had to fill out an application that asked for personal information. Don’t fall for it! The Government is NOT going to contact you via FB Messenger.
Don’t fall for a Microsoft Office 365 scam! This latest scam comes in an email that says your password expires TODAY, and you can change your password or keep using the same password, just click on this link. It’s a fake site that phishes for personal information.
Don’t fall for student loan scams. Scammers contact borrowers saying their loan has been forgiven under a lawsuit settlement involving a major lender. The scammers pretend to be the loan company and tell the victims they must pay an upfront fee to have the debt removed.
Before you sign up for the Noom App, consider this. Consumers have filed over a thousand complaints alleging Noom, a popular app-based weight loss service, offers misleading free trials and that subscriptions are difficult to cancel after the free trial is complete, and they end up getting charged for a monthly membership. The company has a “D rating” with BBB due to a high volume of complaints and the company’s failure to address the issue. Be wary of “free trial offers!”
Con artists are impersonating internet, cable tv, or electricity company representatives claiming to offer a great deal on your bill. If you pay several months upfront, you will receive a discount or free perks. The scammer asks you to purchase pre-paid debit cards to make the up-front payment. Don’t do it!

Inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances may occur, so the information below is strictly of an advisory nature and is subject to change with no notice.

Pothole patching, sweeping, drain & ditch cleaning, striping, pavement marking, and maintenance crews may work on major interstates in the Louisville Metro area only during non-peak daytime hours and at night. Motorists should watch for roadside maintenance on interstates and highways throughout the rest of the district daily.

JEFFERSON COUNTY

I-64 East: Ramp to I-64 East from 9th Street and Market Street will be fully closed beginning at 12 p.m. on Saturday, August 29. Work on this ramp is scheduled to be completed by the end of September. Drivers can detour the area by taking 9th Street to the on-ramp at the intersection of 9th Street and Main Street. Signs in the area will notify drivers.

I-64 East: Intermittent closure of the ramp from I-64 East to Market Street/9th Street/Roy Wilkins Ave (Exit 4). Work is scheduled to take place between 7 p.m. on Friday, September 11 and 5 a.m. on Monday, September 14. Drivers can detour the area by taking Exit 3 (22nd Street) follow 22nd Street to Market Street to connect to 9th Street.

I-64 West: Intermittent closure of the ramp from I-64 West to Market Street/9th Street/Roy Wilkins Ave (Exit 4). Work is scheduled to take place between 7 p.m. on Friday, September 11 and 5 a.m. on Monday, September 14. Motorists can detour by taking the exit to U.S. 150 East/22nd Street, following 22nd Street to Market Street to connect to 9th Street.

I-64 West: The ramp to I-65 South will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday, September 11 until 5 a.m. Monday, September 14, for striping work. Detour signs will direct drivers.

I-64 West: The ramp to I-65 North will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday, September 11 until 5 a.m. Monday, September 14, for striping work. Detour signs will direct drivers.

I-71 North: Alternating lane closures at mile marker 0.5 for sign work on Monday, September 14. Work is scheduled to take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

I-71 North: Alternating lane closures at mile marker 4.6 for sign work on Tuesday, September 15 and Wednesday, September 16. Work is scheduled to take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

I-71 South: Ramp to I-65 North will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday, September 11 until 5 a.m. Monday, September 14, for striping work. Detour signs will direct drivers.

I-264 East (Watterson Expressway/Shawnee Parkway): Lane closures possible for concrete slab replacement and joint repair from mile marker 0 to mile marker 4.5 (near the I-264/I-64 interchange to Crums Lane). Work will take place from 8 p.m. Friday, September 11 to 5 a.m. Monday, September 14.

I-264 East (Watterson Expressway): Alternating lane closures at mile marker 17.9 (Breckinridge Lane) for sign work between 9 p.m. Thursday, September 17 and 5 a.m. Friday, September 18. Work is scheduled to take place in the exit lanes to Breckinridge Lane. The exit ramp will remain open during the work.

I-265 West (Gene Snyder Freeway): Ramp from KY 61 North (Preston Highway) to I-265 West closed for repair. Detour signs in the area will direct drivers.

KY 22 (Brownsboro Road): Lane closures and delays possible at mile marker 2.7 (Goose Creek Road) for road widening work. Work is scheduled to be complete by early fall. Drivers should heed signage in the area.

KY 1747 (Hurstbourne Parkway): Lane closures possible for signal work at the intersection of Linn Station Road (mile marker 12.3). Work will take place daily between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Story Ave: The ramp to I-65 North will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday, September 11 until 5 a.m. Monday, September 14, for striping work. Detour signs will direct drivers.

Story Ave: The ramp to I-65 South will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday, September 11 until 5 a.m. Monday, September 14, for striping work. Detour signs will direct drivers.

Story Ave: The ramp to I-64 West will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday, September 11 until 5 a.m. Monday, September 14, for striping work. Detour signs will direct drivers.

U.S. 31W (Dixie Highway): Refer to project website for new releases and traffic configuration updates: https://louisvilleky.gov/government/new-dixie-highway

U.S. 150 (East Broadway): Replacement of the bridge over South Fork of Beargrass Creek. The bridge will be closed beginning Monday, June 15. Work is scheduled to be complete by late October. Motorists should follow the signed detour.

All Jefferson County (Various Locations): Motorists should watch for crews performing striping work on various roadways. Lane closures are possible during the work. Drivers should heed signage while moving through the work zone.

BULLITT COUNTY

I-65: Left and right shoulders closed in both directions between mile marker 116 and 112 due to the construction of a new interchange. Northbound lanes will be shifted toward the inside shoulder as ramp construction begins. The speed limit is reduced to 55 MPH. Motorists should heed signage while moving through the work zone.

KY 61 (Preston Highway): Road will be reduced to one lane at mile marker 8 (near Shuffitt Lane) for ditching work.

FRANKLIN COUNTY

U.S. 60 (East Main Street): The city of Frankfort will be performing catch basin work between mile marker 8.6 (intersection with East Broadway) and mile marker 9.3 (intersection with Martin Luther King Jr Blvd). Lane closures are possible.

U.S. 60 (Louisville Road): Lane closures possible for sealing work from mile marker 7.3 (Lafayette Drive) to mile marker 7.9 (Taylor Avenue ). Drivers will be directed via flagging.

All Franklin County (Various Locations): Motorists should watch for crews performing striping work on various roadways. Lane closures are possible during the work. Drivers should heed signage while moving through the work zone.

HENRY COUNTY

KY 3175 (Bedford Road): Lane closures possible at the bridge over White Sulphur Fork for bridge coating and guardrail work. Drivers should heed signage through the area.

OLDHAM COUNTY

SHELBY COUNTY

KY 53 (Mt. Eden Road): Work to widen a portion of the roadway will take place from St. Regis Drive (mile marker 6.4) to U.S. 60 (mile marker 8). Two lanes of traffic will remain open to motorists throughout the duration of the project.

SPENCER COUNTY

KY 3192 (Wilsonville Road): Lane closures possible along portions of the roadway for ditching work. Drivers will be directed via flagging operations.

KY 1251 (Hardesty Ridge Road): Lane closures possible along portions of the roadway for rail mowing. Drivers will be directed via flagging operations.

TRIMBLE COUNTY
