Metro Council launches investigation of Fischer Administration

Today, I joined a bi-partisan group of members calling for a thorough investigation of Mayor Greg Fischer’s administration. This investigation will be run through the Metro Council’s Government Oversight and Accountability Committee and will cover a broad array of actions taken by the Mayor over the course of the past four months.

The investigation, which was made possible because of actions by the Kentucky General Assembly a few years ago, will look into decisions leading up to and following the death of Breonna Taylor. The investigation will review decisions by the administration to withhold information to the community following the deaths of both Ms. Taylor and Mr. David McAtee as well as directives given by the Mayor’s Administration to allow the destruction of our City as well as the use of force against persons peacefully taking part of the protest.

For weeks, Members of the Metro Council have sought clarity, transparency and leadership from the Mayor. The lack of action has increased tensions and led to worsening relations between Metro Government and the people it serves.

The Metro Council investigation will officially start with the passage of a resolution stating the scope as well as format of our actions. This resolution will receive a vote by the council and I believe that in the coming days broad bi-partisan support will be announced.

These have been tough weeks for our community and even our country. Last week the Metro Council passed a budget focused on starting to fix several problems facing our community. While funding more cameras, training, infrastructure and investments in underserved parts of our community will start us down the path towards justice, we must also now start to challenge many of the answers given by our Mayor and seek the truth on why his administration has been so slow to release records and provide this community with the transparency that he had once promised.

“As a member of Government Oversight and Accountability Committee, I whole heartily support the initiation of a thorough investigation of the executive branch’s decisions and the role that these decisions have played in the division and mistrust that exists within our community.  We have questions that deserve answering, and need answers in order to help our community begin to heal.” – Kevin Kramer, 11th District Councilman.

I thank you for your continued interest in the actions of your government and promise that I will play an active and interested role in this committee investigation and will continue to keep you up to date on its progress.

Sincerely,

Kevin J. Kramer, 11th District Councilman
