The 2020 U.S. Census will begin in just a couple of months. Ensuring a complete and proper count of Louisville residents is vital for several reasons. The data is used to allocate federal resources, determine representation in Congress, and is a factor in business site selection, among other things.
For the first time, households will be invited to complete the Census online. If there is no response to this invitation, a paper form will be mailed detailing other ways to respond. The form has ten questions only and will take about ten minutes to complete. To view a sample Census form or for more information, click here. Key Census dates are listed below:
March 12-20: Invitations mailed March 16-24: Reminder letters sent March 26-April 3: Reminder postcards April 1: Census Day April 8-16: Hardcopy Census mailed April 20-27: Final postcards mailed May 1: Non-response follow-ups begin
The Louisville Parks Foundation is in the process of conducting its annual survey. This information will be used to identify projects that benefit Louisville parks and guide how the foundation uses its resources. The survey is open until Sunday, January 26 at midnight. If you enjoy visiting Louisville parks as much as I do, this survey will be time well spent.
In a newsletter earlier this month, I mentioned a resource on the District 17 web page called the Planning Weekly Activity Report. Two applications involving District 17 properties are included in the most recent report. One is a category 2B application for an auto service store at 11300 Westport Road. The other request is for a signature entrance for a subdivision along Factory Lane. For more information on these cases, please use the link above.
Every February, the Metro Council's Community Affairs Committee hosts its Black History Month program recognizing people from all across the city making a difference in some way. Honorees from District 17 have included educators, neighborhood leaders, a Montford Point Marine, and someone whose work helped lead to a historic marker recognizing members of an African-American cavalry unit from the Civil War. If you know someone in our district who deserves to be honored during this program, please let me know.
Looking for something to do outdoors with your family? The Northeast Regional Library's "Family Nature Play Day" may be what you're looking for. Families will learn how to identify wildlife through their tracks, make a tracking guide, and much more. Call the branch at 394-0379 to register or for more information.
Louisville Metro Council offices will be closed on Monday, January 20 in observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
