Gov. Beshear Recognizes EnerSys’ Richmond Manufacturing Operations and Workers for Safety Strides
‘Safety first’ culture at EnerSys nets KY OSH award
FRANKFORT, Ky. (Sept. 15, 2022) — Gov. Andy Beshear today recognized EnerSys of Richmond for demonstrating an outstanding commitment to workplace safety.
Between Sept. 7, 2019, and June 30, 2022, employees working at the Madison County battery and motive power component manufacturer logged more than 2.2 million hours on the job without reporting a workplace injury or illness that resulted in lost time.
“This is a significant milestone for any company, and I congratulate each and every one of those team members who worked hard to make it happen,” the Governor said. “I urge all companies – large and small – throughout the commonwealth today to increase safety awareness, because it’s the right thing to do. It shows you’re looking out for your employees, who just want to do a good job and make it home safe to their families at the end of each workday.”
Lynn Whitehouse, acting director of the Kentucky Occupational Safety and Health Program (KYSAFE), presented a 2022 Governor’s Safety and Health award to company officials Aug. 18 at the plant.
“Our mantra is ‘safety first,’ with our people foremost in our minds,” said Troy Baxter, EnerSys’s Plant Manager. “We are proud to be recognized for our team’s hard work and dedication to employee health and safety.”
Aside from its primary manufacturing facility, EnerSys operates a warehouse, national parts center and regional distribution center spread over two campuses in Richmond. An expansion of its regional distribution center is in the works, Baxter said.
Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet Secretary Jamie Link also congratulated EnerSys on its achievement and encouraged employers throughout the commonwealth to contact KYSAFE if they need assistance kickstarting a workplace safety campaign.
The agency provides consultative services, educational opportunities and technical assistance at no cost, he said.
KYSAFE will host a free Population Center Training event Sept. 19-22 in Paducah. State occupational safety and health experts will be on hand at that event to provide training on powered industrial trucks, electrical safety, bloodborne pathogens, recordkeeping and much more.
