Indy Man Arrested on Stolen Gun Charge in Alleged Road Rage Incident 

Grant County– Yesterday at approximately 7:35 a.m., an alleged road rage incident led to the arrest of an Indianapolis man and the recovery of a stolen hand gun.

Officers from the Indiana State Police and the Grant County Sheriff’s Department responded to I-69 on a report of a person having fired a gun. The preliminary investigation by Indiana State Police Senior Trooper A.J. Coffee revealed that a 41 year-old Ft Wayne, IN man was driving a semi-tractor, pulling a trailer, southbound on I-69 near the 266 mile marker. The semi-tractor was allegedly cut off by a 2007 Ford Mustang driven by Jerry Steele, 53, Indianapolis, IN. the semi driver purportedly responded by blowing the trucks horn, when Steele allegedly put a handgun out of his window and fired a shot  into the air.

The Mustang was located and stopped near the 251 mile marker in Delaware County. During the course of the investigation, officers allegedly found a nine millimeter Ruger handgun in Steele’s vehicle. The gun had been reported as stolen from Marion County, Indiana.

Steele was incarcerated in the Grant County Jail to face criminal charges for possession of stolen property and intimidation with a deadly weapon.

Senior Trooper Coffee was assisted by Trooper Weston Shanks and officers from the Grant County Sheriff’s Department.                                                      

All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
